Today's the day the book went live, so I wanted to share a bit about my experience of writing it!

I'm such a sucker for vampires. I'm one of those girls who became obsessed with them after reading/watching Twilight. I've read most of the classics from Today's the day the book went live, so I wanted to share a bit about my experience of writing it!

I'm such a sucker for vampires. I'm one of those girls who became obsessed with them after reading/watching Twilight. I've read most of the classics from Dracula/Carmilla to Anne Rice's books. I also read a lot of vampire YA like Vampire Academy and I was a huge fan of True Blood and The Vampire Diaries. I also like vampire horror like Salem's Lot or Nosferatu or 30 Days of Night. And vampire comedy like What We Do in the Shadows. Give me anything with fangs and I'll eat it up. But what I also noticed is that vampire romances rarely have those really morally black villainous vampires as love interests. Those psychopathic guys incapable of affection. Especially if you compare it to contemporary dark romance. But what if you take an already sociopathic person and make him a monster?

I had this idea of a villainous vampire and his fated mate for a while, even before I wrote my debut book, but back then I got more involved in my stalker story, so it got postponed. Actually, the initial idea was Kat eventually killing Orion hehe. This was before I realized how important happy endings are for romance readers. I started thinking whether a happy ending is even possible for a character this dark without suddenly making him a golden retriever. I created a story that made it believable for me, and I thought it looked interesting, but a lot of things had to happen before that.

When I started drafting the outline, I realized the book was getting too long because I had to add this and that and also I had a ton of smut scenes already written lol and I had to insert them somewhere. Some of them I had to delete/rewrite eventually. I don't know what it says about me but Orion, ahem, sparked my imagination. I love him and hate him at the same time. After writing certain scenes I was actually thinking: "Jeez man, you're disgusting..." But he also made me literally obsessed. I mean, he's horrible but he's so hot because he's smart and put together. For me he's attractive in the way BBC Sherlock was attractive. Cold as ice but fascinating.

Anyway, the book was getting long, so I split it into two. I think it was a good decision because at some point I got triggered by my own writing and started feeling kinda depressed because of all the sad stuff. I cried constantly while writing. After one particular scene I just went to the bathroom and couldn't stop the tears. I grew to love Kat, she's so funny and kind and loving and a bit naive, I felt so sorry for her. (BTW I am glad some readers appreciated her humor lol). I wanted to give her a hug so many times. I even added a small scene from her POV in the epilogue that was meant to be in the second book just because without it I'd feel completely devastated.

So I definitely needed a break from writing this. I'm now working on a new book from my other series that is contemporary and on the lighter side of dark romance. And then I'll come back to this duet and I hope I'll have it ready in November like I planned.
