Though born in Wichita, I spent most of my childhood in Topeka, KS. Roughly translated from some obscure Native American dialect, Topeka means "a good place to plant potatoes." That's all you really need to know about Topeka.

I began writing in elementary school and eventually became editor of my high school paper. In college, I set my site on a career in journalism but a social conscience steered me away from the newsroom and into the non-profit sector where I worked with children and youth for 25 years.

In 2006, I became a positive pet trainer thanks largely to a profound relationship with my soul dog Dixie that began a year prior. It was the remarkable Dixie that inspired my first book, a self-published memoir entitled "A Leg To Stand On." ...more
