My own two children grew up in the US not having too many minority protagonists whom they could emulate. I feel Indian-American writers have to do a better job of filling this literary space for our future generations, so they too can grow up proud of their heritage. I know that the African -American writers/parents have struggled with this lack of positive role models for their children. I wonder how many Asian-American writers have felt this need for a unique identity - separate, and yet part of the great American melting pot.
