Robert C. (Bob) Conner wrote the 2026 book The Detective and Dorothy Day, a mystery thriller and historical novel set in 1975 New York state. He met Day in mid-1970s when in the Catholic Worker movement. Bob's previous novel The Last Circle of Ulysses Grant was published in 2018.
He is also the author of two biographies published by Casemate: James Montgomery: Abolitionist Warrior (2022), and General Gordon Granger: The Savior of Chickamauga and the Man Behind "Juneteenth" (in quotes because the book came out in 2013, and the publisher thought most people would be unfamiliar with the word).

The guy in the middle hosts an annual picnic in the park at this time of year, where we three friends often meet up, and did yesterday. We got to know each other 21-plus years ago as reporters for the Daily/Sunday Gazette of Schenectady. I'm the one on the right, a generation older.
