I think we would all love more sales, but GoodReads is more about exposure. I think the giveaway program helps with exposure, which in turn, helps with sales. I think it would be wrong to say only one element of marketing or self promo would work on its own. It has to be a combination of many factors. So I would go with a giveaway, but truly one needs to network more, through the groups, through friends, through active reviewers and of course, other authors.(less)

I try to write 1000 good words in one sitting, but if it flows, I can write anything north of 2,000. I can write any time of the day, but find early morning is better than last thing at night for me. I'm not nocturnal - unless there's a deadline looming! Motivation, now that's more tricky. I think if one obsesses about sales, reviews, promotion and the like....what needs to be written, will not be written. Word counts tend to get missed not just on a daily basis, but also a weekly one. So I think one must put aside time to do the promotion, networking...and of course reading as well. I will say this though - once book one is written, the process does get easier I believe. I also think discipline at home and on-line is important. People around you must understand what you're trying to achieve, even if they don't support you (well, not until the millions come in :). So unplug the phone, don't answer the door until you have reached your writing goal for that day. Also, I've stopped writing on weekends, keeping it to Monday-Friday only. That way, I can recover over the weekend! In a sentence, I am motivated because I want to be a successful writer, making a moderate living from it. Until I have a breakthrough, I won't stop. The day is coming soon I hope!(less)

“In all your years, Anadyr, have you ever encounted the Dark Mage?” asked Aynara.

“I have not, my Lady, but I would hope for my entire existence not to happen on his ugliness.”

Aynara turned to Anadyr. “I have, just once before. When he appears, he is anything but ugly, my Lord. In fact, one might consider him the most beautiful entity you have ever seen. Strange that it is often the case for many a foe we encounter. Evil often comes with a smile.”

“Dolchyme: "It's...just that....we don't get many of your kind around here. Stormling folk and all that.

Angie Elle Thanks for the friend request. I'll have to check out that Sherry Thomas book!

Christian Green Looking forward to checking out your vampire novellas. I just added "The Blood and the Raven," and I hope to check it out this weekend. Even though my first two works have been about superheroes, vampire novels are what I read more than anything.I'm in the beta stage of my own vampire novella titled, "The Blood in Their Veins." So I am sure your novella will be an excellent read for me!

Yeah, I was pointed towards GH as I'm a big Jane Austen fan (who isn't?) and well..GH is terrific...the Masqueraders was hilarious and yet brilliantly plotted, and The Corinthian was GH at her best. Though as you say...all the ones you mention are ones to read. I hope Lisa Kleypas Stays on HR's...I loved 'Mine Till Midnight.' I just have to read others in the series.

Marita I always love to meet fellow HR lovers :) I see you're enjoying Georgette Heyer's Regencies right now, and my favourites include The Grand Sophy (for the least helpless, most self-sufficient and self-assured heroine I've ever read), The Corinthian (for a heroine who isn't fazed by anything and is always up for an adventure), Frederica (for an admitted loner hero who finds himself completely falling for the sweetest, craziest bunch of siblings), Arabella (for a hero who confidently rules the ton and yet finds himself repeatedly stuck with all the "strays" the heroine saves without quite knowing how it happens), Faro's Daughter and Friday's Child (because they were my first Heyers) and Devil's Cub (for a Rake-with-a-capital-R hero who's completely blown away by the ultimate good girl).

Definitely a big fan of Kleypas and Milan, and I'm ecstatic that Kleypas is writing historicals again!
