Many Japanese people visit a shrine or a temple on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd of January. This first visit is called "Hatsumode" in Japanese.
Hatsu means the first,
mode (pronunciation is like mow-de) means visiting a shrine/temple. We pray for good health, happiness, good relationship, successful business, etc. there.
I went to a shrine on January 1st and prayed for several things. I feel it was yesterday, but it's January 22 today. Time flies...
My 2018 is going well so far.
I hope I can say "It was a great year!" on December 31.
Speaking of Hatsumode...
Cats HatsumodeThis picture book is so beautiful. I'm still happy that I had an opportunity to be involved in the publication of this book as a translator.
If you are interested in Japan, Japanese culture and customs, cats, or stylish illustrations, this is for you. :-)
