Like the main character in his novel "The Unlived Lives of Raymond Quinn," William Matthies served in the U.S. Army including a year-long stint in Vietnam during the war.

After leaving the service, Matthies graduated college, married, raised two sons, and eventually found his true calling as a serial entrepreneur. His first book, The 7 Keys to Change, is based on years of research on personal and professional change management.

His other accomplishments include earning a lifetime ban from Catalina Island, viewing Earth from 80,000 feet during a Mach 2.5 flight in a supersonic aircraft, and remaining an absolute beginner after "playing" guitar for more than three decades.

If possible carry a small notebook with you wherever you go. You will have random thoughts that may be useful later. And if you don't want to add that to your pocket (I rarely do) make notes on your phone.(less)

Trite to say; this is advice from those who are real writers, which I am not.

Write.

You won't improve if you do not continually write. Just get it down on the page and then rewrite. When done with that rewrite the rewrite. When that's done do it all once more continuing to rewrite until you can't bear to read what you've written.

When that happens turn it over to at least one professional editor; someone who knows what they're doing (all who call themselves an editor don't). Someone whose personality will mesh with yours. (less)

It's Time

Picture New Year's Eve: A time to reflect.

I should have taken more time to do that. I do now.

I think about friends and family who have passed, particularly those whose demographics are similar to mine. A few when we were younger.

That didn't pertain to me, or so I thought. It does now.

Unlived Lives stories sometimes include a mirror in which a person on the outside of the glass can see their Read more of this blog post »

Ok, truth be told, while I thought it might be interesting, it was the $2.99 price that got me to buy it.

Whatever the case, I'm glad I did, it checked all my great book boxes.

Remember the poem used to teach kids something about Columbus? The one tha
