Joy Awe is a former military spouse and the author of Suspended Animation, a novel about a young Army wife struggling through her husband's deployment while learning the ropes of living in a military community.

Joy grew up in Santa Fe, Texas. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor's degree in marketing from 2007 and received a master's degree in HR from University of Oklahoma in 2010. While at Texas A&M, Joy met her husband Michael. During Michael's four years of service in the US Army, the couple lived in Grafenwöhr, Germany and traveled extensively, visiting twenty countries, some of them several times.
