I am an old dog who resists learning new tricks, and social media is a new trick for me, so I hope you will indulge me just a bit. One of the reasons I resisted social media is that I prefer modestly to self-promotion (though every author has to promote), and I see a presence on social media as immodest. See what I mean about being an old dog? (I don't take selfies either.) But that's just me. I overcame my natural inhibitions and signed on here because I do want my readers to have access to me, should they have questions or comments, and because I would love to share my writing with them. I am fairly prolific -- not only because I have to be but also because I love to write -- and in addition to working on my latest book, a biography of Sen. Edward Kennedy, I am also writing a weekly column on the media and the election for billmoyers.com, and writing longer articles and essays for various magazines and newspapers, which I will try to post here, in case anyone is interested. Be forewarned, however. I am still figuring this thing out.

Another inhibition of mine is that I seldom write about myself. I overcame that one too, reluctantly, to write my recent cover story in Atlantic because I hoped to provide solace to others in my predicament. The link is below:
