I am a Crazy Person...

Picture Ever do something without even realizing it?

Someone asked me a simple question. How many books have you published? Well, that question turned out to be far more complicated than I could have ever imagined it'd be.

Because while at the time of the question I had 12 books published, over the seven years I'd been publishing I'd published more than 28. So what had happened?

My crazy. That's what.

In the past I probably told myself I was "streamlining my brand" or some other such nonsense because...

The Best Part About Being A Writer

PictureI spend a lot of time online in the company of other writers, so I get so much flack for what I write. “Ewww, why waste your talent on pornography?” or “If you’re not trying to write something that will stand the test of time, why bother?” And it goes on and on and on.

But I never let it drag me down because I don’t write for the same reasons they do, so I never base my worth on those metrics. The reason I write is simple – joy. Pure, simple joy. That’s why I write romance. I love happy endin...

Kresley Cole and the Power of Formulas

Picture I often here people toss around the word “formulaic” as an insult when it comes to writing. But formulaic doesn’t have to be synonymous with bad. Everywhere I go in America I can get a bucket of KFC chicken that tastes basically the same. They not only admit to having a formula, they take pride in keeping it a secret. That suggests their formula is an important part of what’s bringing all the boys to the yard.

So why are formulas considered bad when it comes to writing? My number one guess is...

Combating Writer’s Block

PictureHaving trouble getting the words out? Do you push and push to no avail? Here are some of the things I do to get the words flowing again.Consider the quality of what I’m writing. The first thing I do when I can’t get words out is to make sure it’s not a subconscious defense mechanism against sucking. If I’m writing something stupid or boring I’ll have a much harder time writing it. So if I get suck, first I make sure I’m not writing a pointless scene that I need to spend more time brainstormin...

Recommended Read: Trick Play

Picture I first heard of Eden Finley when Amazon recommended the first book in this series, Fake Out. I really enjoyed it. It was definitely a good read and I can see why this series is so popular.

But while I liked Fake Out, I loved Trick Play. It was one of those books I couldn't put down and got through in record time. I loved the characters, the heat level, the drama, the conflicts...I loved pretty much every aspect of this book. So if you haven't read it yet and you're a fan of M/M, then I defin...

How I Handle Bad Reviews

Picture People write for all sorts of reasons. I write because there are these stories in my head, demanding to get out, to be shared with the world.

I write to be read.

I often say my stories are my children. I labored and suffered to bring them into being. They are my darkest dreams, my secret fantasies, my vulnerabilities, laid out for everyone to see. In other words…

I’m sensitive about my writing.

Given that, I should take the advice that I’ve often found myself giving to others in the past: DO...

Book Analysis: Road of No Return (Sex & Mayhem #1)

Picture
My thoughts on Road of No Return by K.A. Merikan and originality in writing. I remained vague on the details of the book as not to spoil anything for those who haven’t read it. And for those who have read it, it should be pretty clear what I’m talking about.

If I had to sum this book up in one word, it would be unique. And I don’t mean that in a bad way. But I must admit it is rare to come across a book in Romance I’d consider unique. Though I should probably explain, most of the...
