I grew up knowing family is paramount. I was blessed to spend time with extended family daily, not just on holidays or weekends. Because of those close-knit familial bonds, every day was full of love and laughter, food and fun.

Life took me away from that extended family for twenty years before I finally made it back. And while I'd done my best to keep the traditions alive across the miles, I realize there truly is no place like home.

Through my fiction, I share those traditions and the importance of relationships with you. Mystery or suspense, romance or mainstream, sci-fi or thriller—in my stories, family (however you define it) is paramount.

I don't really get writer's block. There are days I know what I want to say but can't figure out the right way to say it, but that's different than not knowing what to say at all. When that happens, I just write poorly. I can always clean up bad writing later. For people who don't know what to say at all? Well, I'd say write anything. Write gibberish if you have to. Eventually that will turn into crappy words, which will turn into something better. And then you'll have a story, which you can then go back and edit later. Who knows? The gibberish may end up being fodder for your next story, anyway.(less)

The answer will be different for everyone. It's probably different for me every day. But I think having a creative outlet for all the things I want to say is pretty darn satisfying.(less)

Gratitude, Book Deals, and Sweet Treats

Ciao, amici. Just wanted to give a quick update on a past, present, and future event. PAST We just celebrated Thanksgiving in the US. I’d intended to write a “I’m so grateful for you” post because, well, I AM grateful. You’ve all been so patient and supportive as I’m dealing with my vision issues, and … Continue reading Gratitude, Book Deals, and Sweet Treats Read more of this blog post »

Of course I read Christian mysteries because (when done well) they prove you can have a whodunit without vulgarities, and one (usually the investigator) or more people have strong faith. The reason I read series instead of standalones is because I lo ...more

I appreciate the continuation of this series not having large gaps of time between them. We pick up after a short vacation/recovery period. While I’d have loved seeing the “meet the family” moments, they likely weren’t crucial to the overarching plot ...more

The world continues to grow, and we continue to meet more people. I love that the expansion we readers experience

After the ending of the last book, I was selfishly hoping to see more secondary characters. It’s okay that they were already gone, especially since we started with a bang. But I’ll always prefer time with Ryson and Stairns, and I’d have liked to have ...more

This book was in Jax’s POV instead of Kenna’s, and I LOVED it. Seeing Dominatus, his family, and the family Kenna forged of outcasts from a different perspective really shed a lot of light on who all these people were. Especially Jax, who I never see ...more

What a Way to End a Series

Joan Hall is an auto-buy for me, and for so many reasons. Not only does she write clean romantic suspense, which is a genre I enjoy, but she gets better with every book—and she started strong!

I’m really getting into this series now. It took a while because the lead of this Christian mystery series didn’t even consider herself a Christian in the beginning. Since she embraced her faith, she’s become a little softer, a little more tolerable. ...more
