Ben Purkert is a poet and novelist. His debut novel, The Men Can't Be Saved, is forthcoming in 2023 from Abrams/Overlook, and his poetry collection, For the Love of Endings, was published in 2018 by Four Way Books and received praise from The New York Times and Publishers Weekly. His writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The Nation, Slate, Wall Street Journal, Poetry, Kenyon Review, Tin House, and elsewhere. (My pal in New Zealand ordered the book from The Strand in NYC, and a signed copy arrived in her mailbox not too long after.) So I think, for now at least, that's your best bet.

Typically, if the words aren't coming, I'm not reading enough. (I'm low on fuel, as Anne Lamott says.) I'll take a break from writing for a few weeks and just zip through a stack of books. That always unlocks something for me. (less)
