Review for THE BOOK OF MATT
“This is one of those books that I could not put down… Once you have read THE BOOK OF MATT, you will have concerns about the justice system, our war against drugs, some members of the gay community’s involvement with certain drugs, and the future of our children… I do not want to give away the book’s chilling insights, because it is so readable, and well worth a close reading by most Americans.” – Marci Hamilton's review for Verdict - Legal Analysis and Commentary from Justia

Great review for THE BOOK OF MATT
"No doubt Steve Jimenez will face criticism for his powerful book. Why did he have to dig around and stir things up?... The movement for equality for gay people is important, not because of what happened to Matthew Shepard on an October night 15 years ago, but because no one should be less valued as a human being because of who they are or who they love... When combating hatred and bigotry, the truth is always important." - The Jewish Daily Forward

Have We Got Matthew Shepard All Wrong?
Aaron Hicklin, Editor-in-Chief of Out magazine, reviews THE BOOK OF MATT for The Advocate. He writes “…did our need to make a symbol of Shepard blind us to a messy, complex story that is darker and more troubling than the established narrative?... There are obvious reasons why advocates of hate crime legislation must want to preserve one particular version of the Matthew Shepard story, but it was always just that — a version. Jimenez’s version is another, more studiously reported account…”

Review from Oasis Magazine
“So, as I became fascinated by the existence of such a narrative-changing book, it was interesting watching the online world pick it apart… I took a different path when faced with my gut reaction of “How could this be true?” I read the book… It is disconcerting to think that Matthew’s memory can be tarnished by the truth, and that sustaining potential lies would honor it.”

A Blogger's Review
“…it took me several days to write this review if only to see it level-headed. There was so much to absorb. he one consistency throughout the book is how Matthew died, but the question I feel THE BOOK OF MATT asked was why… I was amazed by the vast amount of information the author laid out for the reader both leading up to and the aftermath of Matthew's killing… it was all very eye-opening… Another thing I noticed is that the author draws a picture of Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson portraying them as people rather than the criminals they are. It was very Truman Capote style.”
