Firebird Series

Hello one and all. I Hope this finds you all well. This is short not to say that I will not be continuing with the Firebird series. I have tired over Enya and her friends and I have found that I cannot get her story to continue in a way that would do her justice.

I apologise to all my fans and Hope that they understand. Enya is a character that came to life in the back of an English class room when I was fifteen. I have matured a lot since then and feel that if I continue to write Enya I will spoil the essence of the first strong, independent character I Created.

I will however be working on other Project that I hope my readers will continue to read even If they were hoping to continue in more of Enya's journey. So Please keep an eye out for other works when the arise.

Sincerest apologies. Karyn x

Scotland Loves Anime 2013

So on the 12th of October I went to See Fuse: Memoirs of The Hunter Girl, at the Glasgow Film Theater as part of The Scotland Loves Anime Convention this year, with my boy friend. There were other films showing including the usual Mystery Film but neither of our residuals could accommodate going to more than one film which is a shame because i'd have liked to see the Mystery Film as well as The Life of Budori Guskou but alas it was not to be. I also apologize for the late posting on this but I've been busy!

Any way Fuse, was a European premier for SLA this year and I feel privileged that i got to view it this year.

Fuse tells the tale of a young hunter girl ( Hamaji) moving away from the mountains to live with her older brother, who has asked her to come to him in order to help him hunt the Fuse. The story focuses on the concretion that his formed between the Hunter and it's prey. In this case Hamaji's prey is the fuse, but it focuses on the connection between her and one particular fuse: Shino.

Fuse are human/wolf hybirds that are born of a woman having had a child of a wolf. A consept which had my mind spinning with possibilities.

It was directed by Miyaji Masayuki, and it based on Kyokutei Bakin's classic Japanese epic novel Nansou Satomi Hakkenden. Which I have not read, nor do I plan too.

I found this Anime completely memorizing. It was beautifully animated, and the script was wonderfully written even though I was reading the subtitled version  of the script. The story was thrilling, Heart breaking and joyous throughout and the Animation did the story justice. The setting portrayed within the anime was both accurate to the time period the film was set in as well as adding a sense of modernism to it.

It was posted on The SLA website as a Family movie but there were certain parts that were gory and i think would have been disturbing for really young children.

The Music in This Anime was spectacular as well and really help set the tone for each of the scenes. I will when i get the chance be getting my hands on this film's soundtrack because it was absolutely beautiful.

And just as a Little Spoiler This was my favorite line fro the whole movie. I sat with tears streaming down my cheeks as I watched this particular scene.

All in all this Anime was a winner for me. Made even more special by the fact it was directed by someone who has worked with and studied under my all time favorite Anime Director Hayao Miyazaki as we found out during the Q and A session after the film.

After the film My boyfriend and I got to get our tickets signed by the director. Though at the time I was more impressed by the fact I got to thank him in Japanese without the Translator having to translate.

This Is My Ticket -EEEKK!

And This Is My Boyfriend's.

I have to say I Love the fact that there are two different doodles on each of them.

And just becasue I did Really want to see this as it was a another European Premiere if i remember correctly and it looked rather cute, I thought i'd give you the Synopsis of The Life of Budori Guskou.

Budori Gusuko lives peacefully with his parents and younger sister in the Ihatobu forest. Due to extreme cold weather, the forest is raided and Budori Gusuko loses his parents and younger sister. Budori Gusuko has no one now.He tries to go on and eventually begins to work with scientists at an aritficial volcano eruption laboratory. Cold weather again approaches and this time Budori Gusuko decides to not go through the same experience. He leaves the volcanic eruption department to save the others ...

Bento-ing

I know I said I do this as soon as I got my box and I meant too Really I did....But I kind of forgot. So I got my box! It's awesome. Its a lovely dark purple two tiered box that that clips together nice and neatly. It has three tray compartments, the bottom one being the largest, then the white utensil tray which comes with both a purple spoon and fork (Why they didn't also include a knife is beyond me), the third tray is the top tray. it's split into two sections. It's really easy to clean, and is dishwasher and microwavable safe, though i have yet to try reheating anything I put in it. I've been using it to take my Lunch/Dinner in to work and as a community carer, who eat's in the car there is little opportunity to use a microwave.

I find it's a good size for me, especially on my back shift where i eat a slightly bigger meal, as it is my dinner rather than a lunch. the sectioned parts are brilliant for me as it allows me to carry everything in the one box. Though my mother made comment it would be too bulky for her. but you know what they say everyone has their own opinions and mines is, that it's perfect. Except maybe for when i'm on early shift and don't want such a full meal or on the day where I eat a bigger breakfast and am not as hungry come half eleven when i get my break.
which is why I am looking into getting a one tiered box for such purposes.

Anyway now that I've sung my praises for this box, I thought i'd give you a little taste of the bento's I've created thus far. The first few are one's that I made using a Tupperware dish my mum bought out of Morrisons. It worked but the food doesn't really stay in place as well as a properly sectioned box I've found.

This one is a corn beef salad with grapes and Strawberries. I used Silicon cupcake holder's to separate the grapes and the strawberries from the salad, though by the time I got to it, they had mushed in with the salad a bit, but it all tastes fine. it just annoyed my a little, since I have OCD like that.

This One is a bit heavier than the other. they were made in the same week. except I was going straight for work to a friend's birthday celebration, where there would be alcohol and no where t get food from at ten o'clock at night. It consists of pasta mixed in with a tomato and herb sauce, a cheese sandwich and red and green grapes. This one stayed in place a little better than the salad one.

This was The first one I had made in my Bento Box. I put tomato pasta with wafer thin chicken in the main bit. Salad with sweet chili dressing in the bigger top section and a few tea biscuits and yogurt in the smaller section.

The pots used for the chili sauce and the Yogurt did not come with my box. Those were bought separate from Morrison. They are made by a company called Sistema, I got four in the pack. they come with Lid's as well. They can fit half a regular sized tub of yogurt in them.

This one consists of macaroni mixed with soy sauce and chicken in the lower half and salad with sweet chili sauce, yogurt and red grapes.

This One as a mixed veg rice as it's main. Salad (I eat a lot of salad) with my usual chose of sweet chili dressing and a yogurt.
For this one I used some left over noodles from an Ichiban takeaway and If your in the Glasgow Are I advise checking it out there's a sit in restaurant on Queen street and a takeaway place as well though i forget where that is. a cheese sandwich a Caramel yogurt and some apple slices, tossed around in lemon juice to stop them going brown.
This Is a chicken salad with (You guessed It) sweet chili Dressing. I really ought to branch out on my dressing choices at some point, but sweet chili is just soo good. in the top half I had a cheese and tomato sandwich. a yogurt grapes and two tea biscuits.

I Really do Love my box. It's fabby and all my work colleges have passed comment on it!

 Happy bento-ing

Bon Voyage

So Yesterday My best friend Left for her year abroad in Spain. I hope that she has a blast and enjoys her self immensely, but I honestly am going to miss her. You see have been friends for as long as I can remember, and I find that's it going to be odd to spend the next ten months not being able to phone her or text her and make our often spur of the moment plans. It'll be strange having to Skype her at set times rather than just meeting when ever we're both free.

On the up hand I am so glad that technology is as advanced as it is now. It'll still be easy to keep in touch with her via things like Facebook ad Skype. Where as in days gone by it would have been letters that would have taken time to reach either of us.

In saying that I am still a fan of 'Old fashioned' ways of communication. So as part of her Leaving Gift I bought her a journal and a fancy pen, so that she can write down the particulars of her travels. Now I know that she'll be more likely to post them on Facebook or even create a blog much like this for that purpose, but my thoughts where that she could use the journal for a more personal account of her time in Spain.

I Hope she managed to get her flight okay and arrived in Spain and is getting settled in okay before she has to start her work experience part of her year abroad. I hope I hear from her soon. and that she's okay, since I worry about her.

Bento Box. A Tale of My Search

So It's been a While since I've posted anything. I apologize. I have been busy with my day to day life. nothing i particular, just busy with work, and stuff but i'm here and I want to talk about something specific. Bento Boxes, or to us English speaking people, a packed lunch. But let's face it, Bento just sounds cooler.

So why do i want to talk about Bento? simple I work, like most of us do, I know. and Like mot us of I can't afford to buy my lunch all the time when i'm out on the job. Though I did up until recently, despite being unable to afford it. However i work out in the community and the area where I work, doesn't have a lot of healthy food options, i mean there's a Gregs and a hot roll shop. or if we're on the back shift, which mean's taking your break at around half six, you have takeaway's or a chippy. You can see why I put on a bit of weight, which is something I am not happy about.

So i started to take packed lunches, which consisted of sandwiches and a packet of crisps or a yogurt. Healthy enough depending on your sandwich filling, but taking that to work everyday is boring and I've gotten to the point where I don't enjoy my lunch and eat it just to quell the huger.

So as I have a fascination with japan I thought i would get back into the art of Bento. and trust me some Bento's are really artistic. So What is Bento? it's a packed lunch but they are often a lot more varied than sandwiches, Such as :-

They are more filling and I know this from experience as i did lunches like the above when I was at college, and they were far more filling than a simple sandwich. Though the above are possiblely more traditionally Japanese dishes you can use just about anything. Like Rice, pasta, salads and the like.

As for boxes you can use pretty much anything, so long a it's spill proof. In college I used a box almost exactly like the box on the above right. it was a good size and gave me a decent meal, but i found it bulky to carry around with me. which is probably the main reason I went back to sandwiches or just buying something for a shop.

You can however buy specific Bento boxes. That range from one Tier, to two tier, to divided, to specialized one for Onigiri ( a Japanese Rice dish). They come in all shapes and sizes colours. as you can see. They also vary in price too. You can of course uses separate boxes rather than divided ones if you prefer, i just don't.

During my search for a more comfortable Bento box to use i came across some really cool ones Such as the Kokeshi box. Modeled after the iconic Kokeshi dolls in japan. It come in a number of different figure styles. It has two sections for food and the hat/hair flips over to act as a bowl for soup. Though what I've read is that the bowl is not air tight or leak proof like the other two compartments, so i'd suggest taking a cup of soup packet and adding water when your ready to eat to avoid spillages.

I think these boxes are cute and funky, and they appear to be a good size. I love the idea that there's a bowl for soup, but they are not cheep not to dear either, about mid way for Bento pricing, but at the minute out of my price range no matter how much I want one. They are also not the most adult friendly boxes in the world, and I would probably say they are aimed at teens or the more 'geekish' type. But pretty cool none the less.

There are also specialized Bento boxes for things like Ongiri. which is a mold rice dish in japan that you may have seen if you watch a lot of anime. You ca get single boxes like this One.

Or you can get ones with a separate compartment for multiple Ongiri like this one.

As previously said Bento boxes originated in japan, but are now becoming widely used around the world. you can order a box from japan, or the U.S quite easily. But if your like me and Live I Britain it can be a bit costly with postage. So After a lot of research I found what I believe to be a UK Company called Polar Gear which stock a Bento style box that was decently priced. I got mine for £9.00 including postage on amazon, but the actual polar gear site are selling them for £6.99, not sure how much the postage is for that. It has two tiers and a bit for the cutlery one section its divided into two parts for snacks ad the other is whole for your main part of your meal whatever that maybe. I only just ordered it tonight so not sure how it will be in practice but i'll be sure to let you know. It come in two colours, Berry (purple) or turquoise.

Polar Gear also do something called a lunch pod, which I think would be great for soup or meals that you want to keep hot, since Bento's are usually cold. it also comes in a variety of colours.  I am planning on buying that at some point too but i'll see how i get on with the box first.

There are also a range of accessories of Bento making, including artificial sushi grass, sauce pots and bottles, bags to put your box into, or cloths to wrap them in if your wanting something more traditional.  The accessories depend on how cute or artistic you want your Bento but if your just wanting something different for lunch i wouldn't say you needed a lot of accessories.

If your looking for some idea's for bent or just want to know more about it, I can just a great sight. JustBento.com. It has a lot of information, reviews and recipes for you to have a look at. I found it a really interesting site even just to browse around. They also have a cook book if you want to check that out but there are alot of recipes on the site too.

Well
I hope you've enjoyed sharing in my Bento research and i hope to have some Bento idea up soon with my new box when ever it arrives. I shall leave you with some really funky looking Bento Boxes!

I Found This one so adorably cute!

Game Of Thrones

So i know after my birthday i said i was going to get back to work and do some editing and I have honestly! Admittedly not as much as I should have though, there are too things to blame...well three but the third one is allow an acquittal since he actually makes me want to write and there for i need his distraction to want to write in the first place.

and way reasons number one... Game of thrones...Seriously why did it take me so long to get into this show (and i have intentions of getting the books too but i have a list of 13 to get through before i can even consider buying more =/ booo hoo for me) But i do love the show, I'm only half way through the second season but I adore it almost as much as i enjoy Teen wolf. It reminds me very much of the Camelot series of which i greatly enjoyed and was rather sad when the cancelled that after one show so im glad i have something to fill that gap.

I have to say i'm loving Denerys Targaryen' story thus far. i feel sorry for her and then i feel encoraged by her and then elated for and back to feeling great pitty for her. she is a character i can conect with and embrace in away that i havn't quite been able to do with any of the other except maybe John snow.

I know i have another season and a half to go but i am sure i will only fall more in love with this show and when i get the chance the books as well.

The second reason is The damn heat wave that seems to have taken over the west cost of Scotland  seriously, its sweltering and makes it too hot for me to to much of anything except watch tv and read a book though that has also been a bit of a struggle   though in saying that i have managed to read a whole book in a day.

in case your wondering what I am currently reading it's the Hunger games series, i am currently on Mockingjay and am enjoying. I had previously read the first one of the series before the other two came out but never got round to reading the second and third in the series when the eventually cam out, so in light of the fact that the second movie Catching fire comes out in November i decided to re read hungers games and read both catching fire and mocking jay.
I loved hunger games and enjoyed catching fire up until a certain point and then i found it irritating but it redeemed it's self and i ended up liking it as a whole. I can't say much about mocking jay i am currently only ten pages in so we shall just have to wait and see but im sure i'll like it well enough...

Anyway because of the weather i have been spending a lot of time out and about to the local park or at the pub in the evenings and even managed a wee trip to largs which was absolutely the best day i have had in a while =3

However Despite all that I spent this evening hashing away at The second Firebird manuscript despite the heat and really it hot! hotter than it should be in Scotland  this tiny wee redhead can't handle it! but i have suffered and i finally feel like i am getting somewhere and might still get it finished yet if this heat doesn't kill me first! i really ought to invest in a fan...the electrical type of course...actually on of my fans would do too i could get them to fan me with paper or something....nah im kidding i'll get the electric type in not that cruel!

Anyhoo back to work for me, well after a go get some more water that is! catch you later!

21 at Last! and a serious update on life in general!

Okay So I promised I'd do a proper post and get back to my work after my twenty first birthday. Which has now past as has the party my parents through me. I would have done it sooner but it was also the second anniversary of my best friends death and I needed alone time after that, sine frankly two years later and i still haven't taken it very well.

So i'm finally 21! and guess what? I feel no different, just another number, but hey i had a great birthday so it's all good! Now I know your going to ask what it I got well....

My parents got me a car! Woot!!!
Technically I've had the car for a year, but i was under the impression i was paying them back the money, turns out i'm not and they made me stress over nothing, but I love them and Sacy so it's all fine. and yes my car has a name I am one of those people who name their cars. Well actually I didn't name my car my aunt did but it sorta stuck. My uncle of course call it the go kart since I drive Automatic and not manual, because apparently my body thinks a clutch is evil incarnate and really it is. Why do we even still have manual drive?
Yes, moving on...I got other stuff including a nomination Italy bracelet and charms Tickets to go see Wicked next year, and the most thoughtful gift I have ever revised an 80 year old copy of the merchant of Venice by Shakespeare it's my favorite play. I loved it my boyfriend know me far too well =3
So enough about my Birthday, though I will on a Last note say I did thoroughly Enjoy my party, even though my drinks kept disappearing. I swear I had a drink put it down turned round poof it was gone. I swear Harry Potter was there under his invisability cloak....
So Other Bits an Pieces of Life that may or may not interest you lets see? I have officially allowed my inner geekiness to be released, I have even gone as far as to watch something Star trek which I never thought I would do...But again I blame my boyfriend....I newest movie was awesome!!!!
Umm on the 100 books in a year front I have red since my last update a grand total of nine books and I am actually behind sceadual.... but any way the books are as follows
* Blood and Apples (Grimm diaries prequel 6) by Jace Cameron* Moon and Madly (Grimm diaries prequel 7) by Jace Cameron* Once Beauty Twice Beast (Grimm diaries prequel 8) by Jace Cameron* Rumplestilskin (Grimm diaries prequel 9) by Jace Cameron* Jawigi (Grimm diaries prequel 10) by Jace Cameron* 50 Shades of Alice in Wonderland by  Melinda DuChamp* 50 shades of Alice Through the Looking Glass by Melinda DuChamp* The Virgin Witch and The Vampire King by  Trinity Blacio* The Harlot by Saskia Walker* The Taker by Alma Katsu
I hope to catch up on my reading soon If I can Find the time... seriously not having the Time to read is messing with my head ='[
And On official news those of you waiting for the next installment of Firebird hopefully shouldn't have to wait all that long, I hope to have it finished real soon so keep an eye out for it. In the mean time I will amuse you with tales of my daily life.

Rumors Of My Death

To quote mark twain the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated.

so yes i am not dead, not yet anyway though the coming week may prove to be my undoing. Truth is I've been really busy. I haven't even had time to write, or read and for me that's pretty much like a death sentence anyway so really i am greatly surprised that I haven't died for the serious withdrawal symptoms I've been having.

There are a few reasons for this of course.

One the day job has taken over (Curse you Bills!!!!) and has as of late required more of my attention and energy, there for I have been unable to write or read upon coming home. I mean don't get me wrong I Love my job, it's very rewarding but it's the type of job that you can't just switch of from, your thinking about it constantly, annoying but true, even on my days off I think about work....and not in a workaholic way really!

The second reason well I have a new boyfriend, he's great really he is! He has unleashed my once buried geekiness ( a fact I am still coming to terms with) but he's great. He's been monopolizing my time a bit, but really I won't complain on that front because, he's sweet and fun to be around, he makes me smile (sometime more than books do!).

And thirdly I turn twenty one this year, actually I turn twenty one on Sunday! EEEKKK!!! and my parents and I have been busy planning my twenty first. it's been more hectic and terrifying tan i could have imagined. I mean really Tv shows make it look easy! Its been stressful, expensive and i'm still pretty damn scared that i will be sitting in a hall by myself on the night because very few people invited have actually told my there coming!!!! it makes me want to cry.....Alot!

So yes I apologize for the lack of blogs, and promise that once this hellish yet kind of exciting party is over with I will be back with a vengeance and catching up on all my reading and more importantly writing!
