For Long Island, New York’s Hempstead Living magazine, photojournalist and news reporter Ashley Ormon has spotlighted, among others, a local cellist who performed at the White House and local restaurateurs and their cuisine. She photographed the grand opening of The Academy, a charter school aiming to raise the academic performance of students in a district that has been one of New York State’s worst performing and subject of a state takeover.

At New York City’s Hunter College, where she is refining her journalistic skill and eyeing and eventual career in magazine journalism, Ormon co-founded In the Light.
