I would firstly like to introduce my self as the author of Dear Mr. Fox. Like everyone, through my life, I would find or hear something and say "I could write a book about that". Well that is exactly what I did here.
After inheriting many boxes of family heirlooms, among the old pictures and diaries from both world wars, I discovered a box full of letters, still in their original envelopes, and all dated 1946. I quickly could see that the letters were correspondences between Two people. Often letters are found, but only from one person, never getting to see the recipients or the senders letter. But to have them both meant that a complete story was told.
Intrigue made me open the one with the earliest postmark. The first words were 'Dear Mr. I would firstly like to introduce my self as the author of Dear Mr. Fox. Two years later I heard of an on-line program that could read old letters, devised to read German War documents. a simple case of scanning a page and adding it to the program to read. It's success was not as hoped. It would read about one out of four words correctly, leaving me to work out the remaining words. After scanning six pages, I realised that, because i had spent so long deciphering each letter that looked more like hieroglyphics, and code breaking every word, I could in fact read the whole letters. After six months of code breaking, and a massive learning curve as to how to get it to the point of print, Dear Mr. Fox was published.
