I am a creator of worlds and a destroyer of words. As a fantasy writer, my works range from traditional epics to futuristic fantasy with starships. I have worked as an unpaid Little League pitcher, a cashier, a student library aide, a factory grunt, a cubicle drone, and an engineer--there is some overlap in the last two.

Through it all, though, I was always a storyteller. Eventually I started writing books based on the stray stories in my head, and people kept telling me to write more of them. Now, that's all I do for a living.

I enjoy strategy, worldbuilding, and the fantasy author's privilege to make up words. I am a gamer, a joker, and a thinker of sideways thoughts. But I don't dance, can't sing, and my best artistic efforts fall short of

Tech, Lies, and Wizardry doesn't contain any spoilers or inside jokes that you wouldn't get from not having read the main series. While the rest of the missions tend to flow from one to the next, it stands alone. It takes place months before Salvage Trouble, and does not show the events immediately preceding the main series.

So if you read the short story first, it can whet your appetite for what's coming in the rest of the series. If you read it later, you can look at it as a flashback to earlier days. It was written as the former, but works fine as the latter.(less)

Solar Storm

The Ship is Falling Apart. Can You Escape? It’s a race against time with an hourglass full of broken parts.

Evacuating a starship is a common enough trope in sci-fi that it really needs no additional explanation as a game premise.

In Solar Storm, you and your fellow crewmates (I actually typed that as “cremates” on my first try, which is probably what happens when you lose) attempt to divert enough
