What Is Grimdark?
Even the casual fantasy reader cannot have missed the barrage of (relatively) recent terms for subcategories of fantasy, including "Romantasy," "Noblebright," and, of course, "Grimdark." While the meaning of Romantasy may be self-evident, the other terms are not so clear, though their names imply an oppositional relationship.
