I thought, "Man, I'd love to read a book about a teenage con artist, but I don't think there are any." And then I didn't think anything else of it till I woke up the next day with Julep's voice snarking in my head, fully formed and demanding to be written. So I did.(less)

I read that thing cover to cover and took copious notes about each page. I was a pretty boring fifth grader. Then in high school, I decided I wanted to work for NASA, either as an astronaut or a mechanical engineer. Seriously--I went to Space Camp and everything. Then I took a physics class in college, and I was all NOPE. Guess I'm going back to writing about spaceships. And then I wrote about a con artist. Life. LOL(less)

“I'm quite illiterate, but I read a lot. ”

J. D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

“It's partly true, too, but it isn't all true. People always think something's all true.”
J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

“Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around - nobody big, I mean - except me. And I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff - I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I do all day. I'd just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be.”

Mairéad (is roaming the Undying Lands) Oh my, was I ever surprised to see a friend request from you, and I'm deeply honoured and grateful to receive one.

Sorry for the late reply, university likes to share me. :P

And I've noticed you have a book Catch My Grift coming out, congrats and I can't wait to read it when it comes out (which means I should get some money lolz). ;D

message 2: by Mary

Mary Summer Thanks for friending me back! I thought your review of Book of Blood and Shadow was insightful and honest, which made me want to read all your reviews. :-)

Yes, my current project is about a teenage con artist whose dad gets abducted by the mob when his own con goes south. Julep (the protag) has to figure out who took him and why before his mark finds her. The manuscript is in the query stage, and a few agents are reading it right now, so keep your fingers crossed for me!

Nice to meet you!

Kristianne How is Portland? Is it as rainy down there as it is up here? Have you read Terry Pratchett's Wee Free Men? I just read it because it was suggested to me by a friend. It's a funny witch in training story.
How are you?
