The Secret History by Donna Tartt
"I should have gone with a physical copy. This was another time when the author narrating their book does it a disservice. Her voice didn't fit the characters for me. It may have affected the reading experience. I don't typically enjoy an audiobook wi" Read more of this review »
The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury
"Just as creepy as when I read it as a teenager. Stories are a bit dated even though Mr. Bradbury was trying to be "space age". Definitely worth reading again. Not exactly a "feel good" collection of stories but I have remembered them for decades."
Kurt Reichenbaugh and 17 other people liked Phil's review of Emergence:
Emergence by Robert D. San Souci
"Before San Souci switched to a successful author of children's books, he penned three horror novels back in the 80s, including Emergence. While this had its moments, I felt San Souci tried a little too hard to incorporate a variety of horror tropes w" Read more of this review »

George Orwell
“It was not desirable that the proles should have strong political feelings. All that was required of them was a primitive patriotism which could be appealed to whenever it was necessary to make them accept longer working hours or shorter rations. And even when they became discontented, as they sometimes did, their discontent led nowhere, because, being without general ideas, they could only focus it on petty specific grievances.”
George Orwell, 1984

James Dickey
“A poet is someone who stands outside in the rain hoping to be struck by lightning.”
