Kurt Reichenbaugh and 111 other people liked Robin's review of The Last Picture Show:
The Last Picture Show by Larry McMurtry
"Well, this ain't no Lonesome Dove. Yes, it's penned by the same author, and it's set in Texas, but that's basically where the similarities begin and end. The grand, expansive romanticism in LD is nowhere to be found here. Neither is the hope for a be" Read more of this review »
Kurt Reichenbaugh and 22 other people liked Erin's review of Mary Jane:
Mary Jane by Jessica Anya Blau
"What a fun book! The character of Mary Jane wouldn’t be believable if she was set in 2025 but I totally see her in 1975 and I liked her a lot (but not as much as I liked the wonderful Izzy who was adorable without being too precious….but didn’t she e" Read more of this review »
Kurt Reichenbaugh and 9 other people liked Kevin Lucia's review of Shadowland:
Shadowland by Peter Straub
"Such a joy to re-read. One of those tales that alternatively leaves you gasping in awe, and feeling just the tiniest bit of despair, because you know it's impossible ever to match this as an author. But even so, loved it, and I'm still also amazed ho" Read more of this review »
Kurt Reichenbaugh is on page 375 of 501 of Carthage: I've been reading this on the sly at work over the past couple of weeks. It started out as a fairly "normal" suspense novel, then about a third of the way in became a JCO novel.

"3.5 stars rounded up.

It's normal for Marlowe to function as a kind of plot plankton but in The Little Sister, he is almost vaporous. Long established as the private eye who solves cases largely by standing still and watching the rest of LA sweat, her" Read more of this review »

A book made up of interlinked stories set in Winesburg Ohio, around 1890. If each story is a spoke in a wheel, the hub of that wheel is young George Willard. Willard is the town reporter, writing for the local paper of Winesburg. The common thread fo ...more

George Orwell
“It was not desirable that the proles should have strong political feelings. All that was required of them was a primitive patriotism which could be appealed to whenever it was necessary to make them accept longer working hours or shorter rations. And even when they became discontented, as they sometimes did, their discontent led nowhere, because, being without general ideas, they could only focus it on petty specific grievances.”
George Orwell, 1984
