I live in St.Petersburg, Russia, and am proud of having seen my great country through so many epochs and changes it has been struggling with. Especially now when so many forces have united to destroy it.
Originally, I am a teacher of English, who felt an unquenchable urge to write one nice spring day in 2012. I’ve been an avid reader since the age of six when I first laid my eyes on The Hobbit but never dared to think I could begin writing like real Authors. Then the desire overwhelmed me and I had to pour the words out on ‘paper’, otherwise they would have consumed me and torn up my mind. Not a shiny perspective, so you may understand why I succumbed to temptation.
With the birth of my daughter Marusya in 2014, I've switched to writing books

Thanks for asking me. I never knew my father, so this might be a mystery to unfold, but the most fascinating topic that would interest readers could be the gold mines my family had owned before the October Revolution in Russia. Certainly, needs investigating :)(less)

Happy vs Tragic Endings

How do you feel a good story should end -- with a happy ending?
Have you ever enjoyed reading a book that ended not with a happily ever after?
There is the greatest movie ever (in my opinion) called AN ORDINARY MIRACLE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Ordin...) where the protagonist - The Wizard says a phrase to his devastated wife, when the story is about to end in a highly unlikely happy ending.

Mark Twain
“Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn't.”
Mark Twain, Following the Equator: A Journey Around the World

Carlos Ruiz Zafón
“The administrative and hierarchic aspects seem to be crucial in the evolution of belief systems. The truth is first revealed to all men, but very quickly individuals appear claiming sole authority and a duty to interpret, administer and, if need be, alter this truth in the name of the common good. To this end they establish a powerful and potentially repressive organisation. This phenomenon, which biology shows us is common to any social group, soon transforms the doctrine into a means of achieving control and political power. Divisions, wars and break-ups become inevitable. Sooner or later, the word becomes flesh and the flesh bleeds.”
Carlos Ruiz Zafón, The Angel's Game

Carlos Ruiz Zafón
“They teach us that human beings learn and absorb ideas and concepts through narrative, through stories, not through lessons or theoretical speeches. This is what any religious texts teach us. They’re all tales about characters who must confront life and overcome obstacles, figures setting off on a journey of spiritual enrichment through exploits and revelations.”
Carlos Ruiz Zafón, The Angel's Game

Carlos Ruiz Zafón
“Whether we realize it or not, most of us define ourselves by opposing rather than by favoring something or someone. To put it another way, it is easier to react than to act. Nothing arouses a passion for dogma more than a good antagonist. And the more unlikely, the better. … It’s difficult to hate an idea. … It’s much easier to hate someone with a recognizable face whom we can blame for everything that makes us feel uncomfortable. It doesn’t have to be an individual character. It could be a nation, a race, a group … anything.”
Carlos Ruiz Zafón, The Angel's Game

Vladimir Nabokov
“In an Anglo-Saxon thriller, the villain is generally punished, and the strong silent man generally wins the weak babbling girl, but there is no governmental law in Western countries to ban a story that does not comply with a fond tradition, so that we always hope that the wicked but romantic fellow will escape scot-free and the good but dull chap will be finally snubbed by the moody heroine.”
Vladimir Nabokov

Marina Latcko Dear Friends!
It's been a while I have been here, but now my time is totally consumed with educating my daughter (7 yo) and running our bilingual homeschool for kids her age and older. We're doing lots of work and participate in international projects on Flipgrid.
Marusya (my daughter) is learning English and Spanish, and recently we've added German and French :) She is doing Irish Dancing and wants to learn this beautiful language as well. Marusya also writes stories and dreams of writing her books as I do :)
My new illustrator is finishing 3 books about Little Pip, and hopefully, they will be out for Kindle this summer. The process is really slow :( I don't mean writing fiction for teens for the time being, but books for kids are planned to multiply :)
Stay well and optimistic!
Yours,
Marina
