A good friend invited my wife I to go sailing on the Chesapeake Bay this past Sunday. The wind was strong, the sky was full of billowy clouds, and the sailing was exhilarating.
In the excitement, I neglected to put on sunscreen, which resulted in a considerable sunburn, something I haven't gotten in years and years.
I'd completely forgotten how tedious sunburns are, but I am now reminded whenever I brush my hair (ow), take a shower (ow), put on long pants (ow), roll over in bed (ow), cross my legs (ow), or touch the glowing hot coals of my forearms (ow).
I am humbled by the lesson. In penance, I will wear a tarp throughout the 4th of July holiday.
