Beniko Mason, EdD, is a language acquisition researcher and classroom teacher based in Kobe, Japan. She has spent forty years teaching English to Japanese learners using Story-Listening — a method she developed in which teachers tell stories using simplified language, drawings, and real-time comprehension support.
Her work builds on Stephen Krashen's Comprehensible Input theory. Where Krashen proposed the theory, Mason operationalized it — translating abstract principles into teachable, replicable classroom practice and testing them across decades of research.
