Donna Searight Simons is the author of Copper Empire and has been published in magazines and newspapers, including Cycle California, Advisor/Source newspaper and Lake Superior Magazine. She has a great love and interest in Michigan's copper country due to the fact that her grandmother, Dorothy Carpenter Searight, was born and raised in Houghton. Her grandfather, Richard Searight, wrote the novel Wild Empire. After I graduated from college in 1991, I took a trip to the Keweenaw and was fascinated with the history of the labor strike of 1913 that led the tragedy at Italian Hall. Copper Empire Book Presentations

Photo: My book presentations are finally done (for now). It was great meeting people and hearing some of their stories. The Detour Public Library was very sweet to post this sign outside of their library!.

While I was in the U.P. the other week, I gave two more book presentations: one at the De Tour Public Library and the other at Iron Mountain Public Library. I loved the sign that the De Tour Library put out for me (shown above)!

It was such a pleasure to speak at both libraries. The audience was attentive and curious, and I loved hearing their own stories about connections to copper mining. I be Read more of this blog post »
