Lawrence was born in Northern New York the eldest son of Lawrence W. Nason Sr. and Dorlene Reyome. A short story he had written for English class was published in a Northern New York Literary magazine when he was 16. He had always thought about becoming a writer as a child but as the reality of life caught up with him, he started looking for ways to break out of the cycle of life many families were caught in during the early eighties.

He graduated from St. Lawrence Central high school in 1982 a full year ahead of time and entered the U.S Army at the age of 17.
