Thank you Eden for entrusting me with this opportunity to ARC read for you.

What drew me in was the premise of this being Sleep Token inspired, and that this is not simply a band-based fan-fic, but something wholly different. That being said, I was no Thank you Eden for entrusting me with this opportunity to ARC read for you.

What drew me in was the premise of this being Sleep Token inspired, and that this is not simply a band-based fan-fic, but something wholly different. That being said, I was not sure what to expect, as this is also an urban-romantasy.

After reading a few urban-fantasy/romantasy books, I was a little shy on what to expect from Somnium, as other books have left a bit to be desired. I did go into reading this book with an open mind.

I am so happy to say that this book has re-ignited my hope and love for urban-romantasy, and I am looking forward to Book 2 of the Dreams & Darkness series!

Somnium has a fantastic blend of ancient deities, mystical creatures and every day life, in such a seamless way that it really doesn't make you think twice about it (except for that manticore in the bar, haha!).

The story takes you through the FMC's journey, Arcadia "Cadi" (pronounced like Katy), of accidentally being drawn into a cult that she had initially stayed away from, until a co-worker convinced her to try it out just once and see what all the fuss was about. Little does Cadi know, this choice embarks her on a whole new chapter of her life that she feels unprepared for, but gains her 'sea-legs', so to speak, as she goes and has beautiful character growth.

Cadi is also one of the most relatable characters I have ever had the pleasure of reading in my life. The amount of times I laughed, highlighted, and said, "Wow, that's totally me," down to the panic-ordering of the coffee - I've never felt so seen in a book before! It's like Eden had a front row view in my head. Including the heartbreaking parts where Cadi struggles with friendships, letting people in, betrayal, and overcoming a severely heart-wrenching challenge that occurs between her and the MMC Elias.

Not only do you become immersed in the deities and find nuggets of Sleep Token inspired songs and culture throughout the book, but you become swept up in such a beautifully laid out story that you are left with wanting more. I love that Cadi isn't perfect and makes mistakes that can make the reader ask, "GIRL why are you doing this?!" and same with Elias. Their love for one another also feels sacred and beautiful, and not just a typical love story.

The ending had me guessing a few ways that it could go, and I genuinely loved see Cadi grow some teeth, and could really feel how much she wants to protect her new-found friends/family, her love, and I cannot wait to see what Eden pours into the next book! ...more
