No RINGING IN the New Year--It's time to READ IN
I spent New Year's Eve writing a blog to review my 2023 books. Yes, that is weird, even for a writer!
The list included old books and new--from Hilary Mantel to Jon Krakauer to Gabrielle Zevin.
See what you think:

The Button Collector is out of print but still in select libraries!
The Button Collector went out of print at the end of 2018 when PageSpring Publishing closed up shop. It's difficult for small presses to exist in 2019, and I'll always be grateful to Lynn Bartels and Rebecca Seum, who did such an amazing job bringing my book to life--button sketches and all!!!
My book is still in some libraries and can be found here and there. For more information, read my blog on my website:

More Travel by Book
I went to Hawaii for vacation this summer. I had zero jet lag and no lost baggage because I traveled by book--The Descendants to be exact. Along the way, I got to compare the novel to the film. There's a big difference. HINT: it has to do with unreliable narrators!!!! Check out my blog for details!

Travel by Plane, Train and Novel
While my family toured Europe, I had a read-cation and traveled to three continents. My new blog post examines the idea of traveling via books AND offers the lowdown on my summer reading list selections:

Travelogue, Book Nerd Style
I have to admit that I had a lot of fun writing about my recent trip to Heidelberg and Amsterdam with a literary twist. Check it out:

Review by MYLITTLEBOOKBLOG
I recently discovered MyLittleBookBlog and thought it might be a good match for The Button Collector. I sent it on its way and was delighted to find a review posted this morning:

An Ode to Libraries, Part One
The library in our town will celebrate its 100th birthday this weekend. It began as one of only ten Carnegie libraries in North Carolina, and I recently had a chance to visit THE Carnegie library in Pittsburgh. All this made me think about the awesomeness public libraries do for our world. READ ALL ABOUT IT:

Button Flash 10--Lent, 1930
My tenth Button Flash evolved in an interesting way. The reader who sent it in told me that it is a brass button from a Reichs railroad uniform right before Nazi Germany. I’ve been waiting for the right inspiration because I know it’s a special button. On Ash Wednesday it occurred to me to weave the button into a piece about Lent. After that, the story pretty much wrote itself as a mood piece suggesting impending disaster. And I was stoked to find out that Ash Wednesday in 1930 was on the same date as Ash Wednesday this year–March 5. And, if that’s not enough, I sensed hints of T.S. Eliot’s poem Ash Wednesday 1930, as well as the famous opening from The Wasteland.
Literary nerds, rejoice!
So here it is, Button Flash 10, 250 words written in one hour, all about a reader’s button. Thanks, Barbara B, for the historic button!
