Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name. In addition to my books written under the name Derek Smith, I have another profile on Goodreads as D.H. Smith for my crime fiction.

I helped set up a community bookshop in Stratford, London, in the late 70s, and began writing fiction. I can turn up to various events in casual clothes and no one says a thing. Thoreau said, I paraphrase, beware any enterprise where you have to wear new clothes. Dead right. Building A Main Character in a Crime Novel

I decided on a builder as my main character in a crime series, as detailed in my first blog in this thread. Murders would happen where he was working (Don’t employ Jack!). The advantage of a builder is that he gets around, wherever there is building work: small and large houses, schools, hospitals, institutions, factories, shops etc. So lots of different locations and characters possible for the c Read more of this blog post »
