Publishing War Between Amazon and Hachette Publishers and Amazon's Response Letter
I don't know if you've been following the silent war between Amazon and a big publishing company called Hachette. I got an email from Amazon today --since I am an author-- and I have copied it below for those who'd like to read it in its entirety.
I don't have a written-in-stone opinion at this point but may develop one as things unfold. Of course, with the changes for publishing companies the past decade it is ridiculous how publishers have not bent where the wind blows, so to speak. Will their trunk crack like a giant oak that refuses to yield to the hurricane, or will they, like a reed, remain rooted despite the storm?
Here's the letter below. decide for your self. I'm an author so I am one of those affected. Let me know what you think.
Dear KDP Author,
Just ahead of World War II, there was a radical invention that shook the foundations of book publishing. It was the paperback book. This was a time when movie tickets cost 10 or 20 cents, and books cost $2.50. T......

When Do You Use The Lord's Name In Vain?
Gawd! Is this using the Lord’s name in vain?
Are you one of those sensitive to the nuances of words? I know of cultures whereby if you say “dress” it could mean any type of attire. Then, there are languages whereby every word paints a slightly different picture.
The Bible was written, mostly, in Hebrew in the Old Testament (with some sprinkling of Aramaic), and in Greek in the New Testament. If you’ve tried to study Hebrew or Greek you’d quickly realize that the subtleties in each word in these languages are more pronounced than in English. Is it any wonder that Jesus said in the Bible (Matthew 5:18),
18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
In fact, the Expanded Version clarifies it more:
18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth ·are gone [pass awa]......

Friendship tips to live by for teens, young adults and even not so young adults.
Spiraling out of the Shadows.
After the world blog our I did i thought it was timely to have my friend from the land down under write on friendship. Friendships for young people is a topic close to my heart. Growing up as a latch-key child friendship was important to me. In fact, my best friend became a sort of "parent" and bff rolled into one. Sadly she passed away at a young age last year. How important is friendship in your life? In your children's lives? I hope to do a series of friendship in the next few months. It ties in with the theme of my Dead Dreams series.
So, here is Michelle Dennis Evans, a young adult fiction author from Australia.
Thank you so much for inviting me to visit your blog today Emma.
Friendship is something that fascinates me and frustrates me. Just when I think I’ve got it worked out something goes incredibly haywire with another friend.
So, what does an author do when they haven’t qui......

World book blog tour-the author's writing process and the discovery of new books.
When Diane Tatum, my friend and marketing partner with the John 316 network, so graciously requested that I take part in the world blog tour I was intrigued by the sound of it. I am so glad I went on to accept the invitation. It is an honor to be considered and to reach out to my fellow earth dwellers through this blog tour. There's little I enjoy more than cuddling up with a good book, so hopefully this tour will open up more avenues for newer books you'd never known existed before.
First for some admin stuff: To follow the tour backwards as it were, click on the link for Diane’s Blog, and if you wish, follow her nominations as well as the writer, Marion , who tagged Diane. I can promise you a wonderful and stimulating afternoon exploring the writerly stratosphere of online blogging and reading about authors from all over.
Before I answer the questions posed by the tour, I thought I’d say a little of myself. I wish I could say I am a full-time aut......

Literary Book Awards for self-publishing and indie authors
Recently my fantasy fiction, Keeper of Reign, won several awards. Praise God!
For Reader's View Keeper of Reign, book 1, took second place for Young Adult; for The Beverly Hills Book Awards it took first place for Juvenile fiction and Pre-teen fiction.
Some of my fellow authors have asked about Book awards and so I thought I'd do a short blurb on it and also list the awards a self-publisher can try a hand at. I chose these awards at random--mainly because I'd already missed the cut-off dates for some of the others. Also, Keeper of Reign is a hard book to categorize. I wrote it when i did research and found out that Young Adults are meant for readers 10 and up. Ten to 18 is a wide age range. When i wrote the book I had my children in mind. But I forgot, that being homeschooled, my children were very sheltered and were not as "exposed" to certain things as their peers.
After I finished the book i found out that a sixteen-year old needed more ang......

Young Adult Mystery psychological thriller that teaches a lesson.
I will be having a Free promotion for Dead Dreams next week April 3rd to April 6th as I gear up for editing for the second installment of this mystery thriller. Be sure to grab it on Amazon while it's free:
Dead Dreams E-book free for 4 days only
if you have signed up for my newsletter I hope to let you know then. i have to confess that i am terrible at newsletters even though i was the editor and a creator of a homeschool newsletter for the SF Bay Area some ten years back.
1. How long did it take you to write this book?
I started putting words to paper for Dead Dreams in January of 2013, but the story was already brewing my head a couple of months before that. I consider myself a fast worker but even then it has taken me about 1 whole year from the time of conception to getting the book out in paperback--which will be in November 2013. Writing a book really takes longer than most people expect it. Harper Lee took forever to finish To Kill A Mocking ......
