I grew up in the beautiful North East of Victoria, a place that shaped the way I think about country life, community, memory, and the country that owns me.

I have been shaped, too, by family, work, love, grief, failure, laughter, endurance, and time. I am a husband, a father, and a grandfather, and those lives around me have taught me as much about story as any book ever has.

Life’s experiences accumulate. They knock the edges off us, much as a pebble is shaped by the river that carries it on. I think stories do something similar. They carry us, wear at us, reveal us, and sometimes leave us more fully ourselves.

A Little More Human

You know, I really love animals.

I have two dogs, and while watching a reel of an owner hugging his golden retriever, I thought, simply this:

What is it that draws us to animals?

There is an honesty, a simplicity that emerges.

We give ourselves permission to loosen restraint and be ourselves.
