Fanita “Moon” Pendleton is an accomplished author, entrepreneur, public servant, and travel professional whose journey is a testament to perseverance, reinvention, and the power of refusing to allow where you start to determine where you finish.

A native of Oakland, California, Fanita’s path to success was anything but traditional. After attending Job Corps and earning her GED, she continued her education at Luzerne County Community College, where she earned an Associate in Applied Science degree in Broadcast Communications Technology. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Langston University and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Troy University.

Fanita “Moon” Pendleton is an accomplished author, entrepreneur, public servant, and travel professional whose journey is a testament to perseverance, reinvention, and the power of refusing to allow where you start to determine where you finish.

A native of Oakland, California, Fanita’s path to success was anything but traditional. After attending Job Corps and earning her GED, she continued her education at Luzerne County Community College, where she earned an Associate in Applied Science degree in Broadcast Communications Technology. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Langston University and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Troy University.

Fanita built an extensive career in criminal justice and public service, serving in roles that included juvenile probation officer, adult probation officer, criminal justice instructor, and parole officer. She continued her commitment to serving her community through her work as a magistrate for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Beyond public service, Fanita is an entrepreneur and passionate storyteller. Writing as Fanita “Moon” Pendleton, she has authored numerous works of urban fiction, including the Shoot First, Ask Questions Never series, Fist Full of Tears, The Moscato Diaries, MOET: Money Over Everything, Moet’s Revenge, and Open Marriage: A Fatal Attraction Story. Her love for literature also led her into publishing and creating opportunities for other independent authors through Urban Moon Books.

Fanita later transformed another lifelong passion—travel—into FP Vacation Experts, a travel business specializing in memorable vacations, group experiences, cruises, girls’ trips, couples’ getaways, solo adventures, and international travel. Her philosophy is simple: life is meant to be experienced, memories are meant to be made, and there is always another destination waiting.

In 2026, Fanita’s journey came full circle when she returned to Luzerne County Community College 35 years after graduating to serve as the keynote speaker for the college’s 58th commencement ceremony. Standing before a new generation of graduates, she shared a message reflected throughout her own life: your beginning does not dictate your ending.

Whether through the pages of a book, her service to the community, entrepreneurship, or helping travelers see the world, Fanita continues to build a life centered on purpose, possibility, and creating experiences worth remembering.
