An avatar of creative writing: Author Spotlight interview with Sai Marie Johnson
In today’s interview we meet “avatar of creative writing”, slipstream writer Sai Marie Johnson.
1. If a movie was made of your life, what would be the title and why?
My choice title would be Steaming Mirrors, and that is because I have been writing my autobiography and that was the title that fit best.
2. If you had a snail that could grant magic wishes what would you call it and why?
Turbo, because my friend has a water snail that is really fast and his name is Turbo. Also if he can grant wishes he needs to be fast acting.
3. If you could have a superhero for a partner, who would it be and why?
Elektra, I have always loved Elektra and the sais are one of my favorite weapons. (Not just cause of my own name either)
4. What is the meaning of life? (And you can't say 42!)
The meaning of life is to love others.
5. Tell us a bit about your latest/upcoming release.
My latest release came out June 6th, and is my tenth publication, the last book in my first completed series, and was released on my 30th birthday to mark those milestones. It's titled Simply Scarlet, and is a contemporary erotic romance.
6. What genre/s do you write in and why?
I am a multi-genre author, and the reason why is because I write what I am inspired to write. I prefer horror, fantasy, and the paranormal but I also write poetry, children's stories, and erotica as well. Because of this I don't like to claim a genre, but rather say I am just a writer, an avatar of creative writing.
7. Do you have secret to overcoming writer’s block?
When I experience writer's block I do a couple of things: going outside and getting back in touch with nature is a prime example. I also like to turn to music, and just reevaluate what I need to complete. If that doesn't help I move onto something new I want to write and work on that until my creative wheels start flowing and I can focus on the first story I was completing.
8. Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
For the Scarlet Erotique Series there definitely is in every single book, in Simply Scarlet the message is clear: Choose wisely in everything you do because all that glitters is not gold, but that does not mean you should fear moving forward to find out if there is a diamond in the rough at the bottom of a dark hole. People who read the book will understand what I mean by that.
9. Do you have any advice for other writers or aspiring authors?
You are never an aspiring author to begin with. If you write you are a writer, period. You may not be a published writer, and that may be something you aspire to attain but you are still a writer. It is important for anyone starting this journey to keep things in perspective. Don't belittle yourself, or say anything that makes you look unprofessional. Just keep writing, and let the pieces come together by involving yourself in writer's groups, classes, and conventions. That's where you will really learn everything you need to know.
10. What is the best link for people to buy your book from?
