How do I decide my star ratings?
Don't you hate how subjective the star rating system is? Some people think three stars is a good rating while others feel a four star rating is a terrible insult.
I was so pleased to discover a number of years ago that goodreads has come up with a solution for this. Here's how to find it:
1) Go to the book page of a book you have not rated.
2) Mouse over the stars under the book image (don't click).
You will see that each star is assigned a meaning.
1 star – did not like it
2 star – it was ok
3 star – liked it
4 star – really liked it
5 star – it was amazing
This system means that a three star rating on a book is a good rating. And gives a helpful, objective guide for choosing how many stars to give a book.
If you look at my ratings, you see that I'm quite forthright in my ratings. I appreciate it when others are too because it helps me get a better feel for whether I will benefit from reading a given book.
I hope this has been helpful to you.
Happy reading!
