When Friends Die Young
We have all experienced loss to some degree, whether it be a family member, friend, or pet. It's never easy dealing with all the emotions that arise. But have you ever noticed how difficult it is when that loss happens to be someone young? Someone who had their whole life ahead of them. I just recently found out a childhood friend of mine lost his life at the age of 24. It was shocking at first. My mind instantly went back to our time at space camp together and how we arranged to go to space academy together too.
We were pen pals for years. He was in Indiana and I was in NY. We would even call each other every now and then. We were kids but I remember having great conversations with Aaron.
He was always so witty and funny. If I was in a bad mood, I wouldn't stay that way for very long if I talked to him.
I found a memorial page his family set up, and it is a great page but also sad.
Someone had posted that He didn't even have a chance to change the world because he died so young. But I wanted to write and let his family know he did change the world. He changed it for me. He changed it by being a part of my life.
I wasn't the most popular kid and I struggled with many emotions for years. Aaron helped me through the worst times I had in middle school. He was really a bright and shining star for me. He really did encourage me and challenged me to do more and do it better.
He was such a positive influence in my life. Sometimes if we influence one person it can change the world.
If Aaron's family is reading this, I just want to say thank you so much for bringing Aaron into the world. Even if it was for a short time it was not wasted time. He truly was a blessing to me. I just know if Aaron were here now, he would still be encouraging me to go on and help others, which is exactly what I am doing.
I will carry our friendship forever in my heart, and I pray that this post, and these books, will be a blessing to many.
Moving forward with the call on my life, is the only way to honor Aaron's life. I am taking his advice and moving forward.
Thank you so much God, for blessing my life and crossing my path with Aaron Schoffstall's. I am forever blessed.
In memory of Officer Aaron Michael Schoffstall
