B. Vale built a career in technology, but agriculture was always the other pull — years spent working a 2.5-acre homestead, close enough to the land to know what it actually takes to grow something and keep it alive, season after season. That double vantage point, half circuit board and half soil, shapes everything they write.

Now retired, B. Vale lives a nomadic life, unattached to any one place, and makes a point of showing up wherever their grandchildren are, every chance they get.

I spent years polishing opening chapters I never got past - it wasn't until I forced myself through a full draft, flaws and all, that I actually learned how to write. Also: read outside your genre. Some of what shaped this series came from books that have nothing to do with small towns or gardens.(less)
