A powerful introduction to the author'snew series, 'Yellowstone Descendants,' this story is filled with grief, trauma,suspense, and personal growth . . .
Ashton Anderson left his family and his hometownten years ago to escape a painful event and to try to find himself.Unfortunately, he did not contact his parents, close friends, or the youngwoman he left behind during those ten years.
When Ash finally returned to Saddlehorn,Montana, broken and battered, some accepted him back with open arms. Othersdidn't want to have anything to do with him. Although he was alone, he broughtalong his dreams and his young colt, Captain.
I enjoyed learning how Ashton, anexperienced horseman and horse trainer, related to Captain, and how he trainedthe two-year-old colt.
This book contains a lot of action, anatypical romance, close friendships, rekindled family bonds, and a well-writtenmystery filled with suspense. There is a strong faith thread woven throughoutthe story which includes various characters sharing their beliefs and scripturewith others.
Throughout the story, the author facesmany tough issues in a straight-forward manner. Addiction, racism, abuse, andfamily problems are some issues which come to mind. I enjoy reading storieswhere flawed individuals make a lot of personal growth, and this story presentsseveral examples of this particular theme. The story is completely clean inlanguage and content.

While living in this exotic place, she traveled extensively to various countries around the world. After graduating from an American boarding school in Austria, she attended college in England, where she met her husband. She graduated from New England College with a degree in biology, and settled down in Connecticut.
Anne became a horseback riding instructor as well as a certified therapeutic riding instructor. She and a group of friends started a therapeutic riding center in Bristol, CT. Basedon the series of warnings Mom had just given me about the two supposed grownadults in question, it was a valid distinction. We were discussing an upcomingevent at mymother owned and I’d taken over as manager. Event? Maybe. Circus of clashingegos? More likely. “Can’t we expect grown adult behavior from actual adults?”
“Withthose two? Not a chance!” came a declaration from an named Dot, seated at the large gathering table in the back ofNina’s Nimble Needle. All the rest of the NYAGs—the Not Your Average Grannies,who have been shop fixtures for as long as I can remember—nodded in agreement.These women gathered nearly every day at the shop to work on their needlepointand flex their considerable gossip skills. The NYAGs knew about all thegoings-on in town and had opinions on most of them. They were some of our bestcustomers, staunchest allies, sources of endless amusement, and some of Mom’sclosest friends. I adored them as much as they frustrated me. And I knew enoughto take their warnings to heart as much as Mom’s.
Evidentlymy worry showed on my face, because Dot consoled, “Don’t worry, hon,” with adismissive wave. “You’re up for it. The trick will be to keep ’em apart.”
“Farapart,” added , as she looked upfrom the Christmas stocking she was working on for her fifth grandchild. It’snot at all uncommon to see people working on Christmas stockings in June hereat the store. Or baby items the minute a pregnancy is announced (if evenbefore). Needlepoint takes time to accomplish. Lots of it.
“Dot’sright. You can handle ’em,” cheered
Iwelcomed the consensus of NYAG support. After all, I’d been taking time toaccomplish my work here, too. I’d been stepping farther and farther into myrole as the permanent replacement for my mother, Nina. I’d been , and almost everyone consideredme in charge.

The best things happen!
I’ve been writing novels with crafting themes and crafting characters for years. When Kensington gave me the opportunity to create an entire series around a small-town needlepoint shop, I jumped at the chance. Growing up on the east coast, my father owned the building on our town’s main street that housed a needlepoint shop. I have fond memories of the little needlepoint kits the owner would send our family inside her holiday cards. What a neat thing to have that come back around in my life over 50 years later!
As longtime knitter, I knew my return to the needlepoint world would include a warm welcome. My local shop was quick to help me get my skills back up to speed. Needlepoint sends me into the world of color and texture at the end of the long days I spend staring at my computer screen. It keeps me company on the tiring days of travel. And it never fails to spark a conversation in the airport or on the plane…often including the statement, “My mother/grandmother used to do that.”
The neat thing is that “granny crafts” (a term I don’t like even if I am a grandmother myself) are experiencing an explosion of popularity right now. It’s not hard to see the appeal of something so far away from our digital deluge. Every age is discovering the power of color, texture, and the creative process. My favorite letters and emails from readers are the ones that say something like “I want to try needlepoint now.” Or “I picked it back up after years away from crafting.” I deeply understand the lure of crafts and am always happy to share them.
Craft theme aside, I knew cozy readers demand a good, juicy mystery along with their cozy. The right story combines a dose of minor chills and “ah-ha!” moments along with the good friendships and small town quirkiness. If I’ve done my job well, the reader had equal vibes of “I never saw that coming!” and “I knew it!”
When the Nimble Needle Mysteries debuted with ONE SHARP STITCH last year, Shelby Phillips thought she was coming back to Gwen Lake to watch over her mother’s needlepoint shop for a short stint. Now as the series continues with TWO PURLOINED PILLOWS, she’s settled in as the shop manager and deepend her friendships with both neighbors and her oh-so-perfect sister Jessica. While the shop boasts a feisty circle of older stitcher known as the NYAGs (Not Your Average Grannies), Shelby has created her own circle of stitchers who prove their chops as crime solvers as well. The intergenerational fun and friction is part of the story’s charm.

A high school senior, snowboarder JakeTaylor was thrown into the limelight when he won an Olympic medal last winter.While he's thrilled that he won a silver medal, he concedes he's had difficultyadjusting to the 'new normal' his life has become.

Joanna gave Jacob, andeveryone, a wave and turned around slowly. She didn’t want to hurry and makeJacob think she was courting Adam. Nor did she want to go too slowly and riskhaving Adam say something embarrassing in front of Jacob. Her heart beatfaster. Perhaps she hadn’t met the right person yet—until now.
On the way home as Adamchatted away about the ice cream, about Mandy and Caleb, and about hisgrandparents’ business that he was excited to learn, Joanna thought aboutJacob. About how tall he was. And how handsome with his square jaw and deepbrown eyes. And his charming smile. Compared to Adam, who seemed to be an openbook, Jacob was quiet and mysterious. She couldn’t stop thinking about him.
When they reached MammiLu’s, Joanna thanked Adam for the ride and started to open the buggy door.
“Wait!” Adam set thebrake and jumped to the ground. “I need to do that for you.”
Joanna waited, a littleimpatiently. When Adam appeared at her door he extended his hand to her as hegrinned.
She took his hand andjumped down. “Denki.” She started toward the back door. Mammi Lu had left abattery- operated lantern hanging to light her way.
“Wait,” he said againbut not as enthusiastically as before. “Aren’t you going to ask me to stay?Lemonade on the porch? Maybe a cookie.”
Joanna turned towardhim at the bottom of the steps. “I’m tired. From the trip and everything.”
“Oh.” He took off hishat and ran his hand through his dark hair. “I wanted to talk about the trip.About sitting in the back of the van together. Don’t tell me you didn’t feelsomething.”
Annoyed,Joanna said, “I didn’t feel anything.” But she had. Although it paled whencompared with what she was feeling for Jacob.
His face fell. “Well,I’ll see you tomorrow. At the office, right? You’re coming by to talk to Mammiabout a job.”
“Jah.” Joannamomentarily regretted not asking him to stay. But not enough to change hermind. “See you tomorrow.” If she got the job, she and Adam would have a chanceto get to know each other. Perhaps she’d want to court him eventually— unlessJacob Byer asked her out first.

An inspirational story of Amish romanceset in a tight-knit traditional Amish community . . .
Joanna Grebel lives in Lancaster County,Pennsylvania, with her grandmother—Mammi Lu. She helps around the widow's farmby cultivating and cutting flowers for the farm stand on the property and byassisting others in the community.
Later Joanna is employed by an oldercouple in the community—Becky and Ike Slaybaugh—to work as an assistant intheir construction business. The Slaybaughs purchase homes, renovate them, andflip them for a profit. Joanna is gifted at design and has excellentorganizational skills. She is tasked with outfitting the homes with cabinets,fixtures, furniture, etc.
One of my favorite elements of thisstory is the many inspirational Bible Scriptures that are shared between thecharacters in letters and conversation. The other is the enduring friendshipbetween four of the older characters—Becky, Rhoda, Elaine, and Lu. These fourwomen were friends back in their Rumspringa time when they were teens. Theyhave been there for each other through courtships, marriage, the deaths ofchildren and spouses, and in good times, too.

When Ibegan writing A Scoop of Deceit, I was inspired by the idea that eventhe sweetest places can hide the darkest secrets. I wanted to create a cozyseaside atmosphere filled with warmth, humor, and close-knit friendships—butalso a mystery that would challenge my main character, Danika Delaney, in newand unexpected ways. As I wrote this story, I enjoyed peeling back the layersof Watchogue and revealing the tension simmering beneath its charming surface.In this excerpt, you’ll see the moment when the sense of small-town comfortbegins to shift.
From A Scoop of Deceit
“Well,will you look at that.” Sally propped her hands on ample hips and stared towardthe checkout counter.
I’mashamed to admit my first thought went to, What did Aunt Miriam get herselfinto? But in all fairness, the thought wasn’t unwarranted.
Instead offinding Aunt Miriam, though, I spotted a man I’d never seen before. Hiscream-colored slacks and jacket paired with a green shirt and Doce &Gabbana loafers certainly drew attention, but it was his attitude that kept it.
I keptpace with Sally as she moved closer. No way would Sally miss whatever was aboutto go down.
The guyshifted Versace sunglasses to the back of his head (a look I’d neverunderstand) and tucked them into a dark-colored fade held in place with enoughhairspray to pop another hole in the ozone layer. He scowled at Kendall, theyoung girl behind the checkout counter.
“I’msorry, but we don’t have anyone available to make a delivery today.” The girlgestured at the crowd waiting by the register and blew her strawberry blonde bangsoff her forehead. “As you can see, we’re swamped.”
I leanedback against a nearby counter, folded my arms, and watched the drama unfold.There was no sense pretending I wasn’t paying attention since pretty mucheveryone in the place was fully focused on the interaction. Some rolled theireyes, others tsk-tsked or spoke in hushed whispers—not out of courtesyfor the man involved, but because no one wanted to miss anything. Plus,whenever a young woman was being harassed you could count on the citizens ofWatchogue to step in.
“Look,young lady, I don’t care how swamped you are. I just spent a small fortune forplants, and my landscaper will be at my house early tomorrow morning, and Ineed my purchases delivered before that.”
“Look, Mr.Krane, as I’ve already told you…”
I had togive the girl props for courtesy. She maintained her even tone and forced smileno matter how loud and obnoxious the customer got.
She methis stare with a cool one of her own. “The best I can do is come in and openearly tomorrow morning so you or your landscaper can pick up the plants.”
“Ha!” Theman scoffed. “You expect me to pick up my own plants? Then what am I paying youfor?”
“You’repaying for the plants you purchased. But if you’d like to pick them upyourself, I’ll be happy to refund your delivery fee.” Her smile never faltered,but her right eye twitched a few times.
Istraightened when Mom moved onto the line behind him.
AuntMiriam gave him a quick up and down then turned her attention elsewhere. Goodfor her.
Mom clearedher throat, and I took a few steps closer. “Excuse me, Kendall.”
Kendallturned away from him and shot her a grateful smile. “Yes, Mrs. Delaney. I’msorry. How can I help you?”
“I’d liketo pay, please.”
I bracedfor the coming argument from the entitled a—uh… gentleman, because no way wouldI let him speak to my mom with anything less than respect, and moved to standnext to her.
When hewhirled on her, Mom met his confrontational gaze with one of her own, the onethat said I ain’t takin’ none of your nonsense, buddy. The same oneshe’d always pinned my sister, Meghan, and me with whenever we’d acted up. Hisgaze skipped from her, to me, to Aunt Miriam (then did a double take. Not thatI could blame him.). When he returned his attention to Mom, he opened hismouth, seemed to think better of the idea as the three of us stood shoulder toshoulder in solidarity, then snapped it shut, and turned back to the cashier.“Fine. I will expect a delivery tomorrow, though, as soon as possible.”
“Surething, Mr. Krane.” She offered her thousand-watt smile. “You have a nice daynow.”
Hemuttered something unintelligible as he stalked away.
Kendallblew out another breath, her shoulders slumping. “Is summer almost over yet?”
I laughed.Summer and fall on Long Island’s east end brought flocks of tourists to thebeaches and farmstands, giving local businesses a much-needed financial boost,my own included. Unfortunately, not all of the visitors were friendly. And afew, like Mr. Krane, were downright nasty and entitled and thought the wholeworld owed them something. “Sorry to say, but not by a long shot.”
I stuck byMom while she paid for her purchases, lest Mr. Krane decide to make anotherappearance, then hauled them to Uncle Jimmie’s truck and loaded it up. As Isqueezed back in behind Aunt Miriam, I noticed Mr. Krane just climbing into afancy, black Beamer (no surprise), cell phone pressed against his ear, armsgesturing wildly. Sympathy for whoever was on the other end of the line flared.
“I wonderwhat he’s all in a state about.” Apparently, he’d drawn Aunt Mirima’s attentionas well.
“Whoknows?” Mom glanced in the rearview mirror, then shifted into reverse, andwaited for the Harts to haul their weeping cherry past. “Some people are justnasty for no reason.”
“Well, itseems to me it’s just as easy to be kind.” Aunt Miriam turned back to Mom. “So,what are you making for dinner tomorrow night?”
Sundaydinners were a huge deal in the Delaney household when the entire clan met upat Mom’s to eat, drink, and catch up on current events.
“I don’tknow. I was thinking a barbeque might be nice…” With one more look around forstragglers, Mom glanced in the rearview mirror again, then turned to look overher shoulder, and backed out of her spot. “But I’m not sure the weather willcooperate.”
“Oh, holdon. I know.” Aunt Miriam started to rummage through a bag the size of asuitcase. “I have one of those weather apps on my phone.”
From thecorner of my eye, I caught movement as Mr. Krane’s BMW accelerated at rocketspeed.
“Mo—”
The crashcame before I could finish my warning, hard, fast, and loud, knocking me to theside. My head slammed against the passenger-side window, and the contents ofAunt Miriam’s purse scattered across the interior. Stars circled my head likein the old-fashioned cartoons Meghan and I used to look forward to on Saturdaymornings, before streaming services allowed round the clock access to whateveryou might like to watch. I contemplated why that’s where my thoughts might havegone, wondered briefly if I might have a concussion, then plucked a red thong Iseriously hoped hadn’t been worn yet from my lap with two fingertips and set itaside on the backseat.
My gazebounced from Mom to Aunt Miriam and back again, but before I could assesseither of their conditions, the screaming started.

I enjoy writing cozy mysteries for somany reasons! First, there’s something undeniably comforting about a cozymystery.A small town where everybody knows your name. A close-knit communityfull of quirky personalities. A charming local business that feels like home.And, of course, a murder that threatens to unravel it all.
When I first had the idea for the Coffee& Cream Café Mysteries, it didn’t begin with a murder. It began with the icecream parlor—the kind of place where families gather after Little League games,teenagers share secrets over double scoops, and regulars have “the usual”waiting before they even reach the counter.I kept picturing a charmingsmall-town shop—the kind with handwritten flavor boards, a bell on the door,and regulars who feel like family. I wanted to write a story that captured thatwarmth and nostalgia. Ice cream is comfort. It’s celebration. It’s childhoodsummers and sticky fingers. I wanted to create a place that brought me back tomy own childhood and what it was like growing up in a small town.
And then I asked myself: what wouldhappen if something terrible disrupted that sense of peace?
That question became the start of theCoffee & Cream Café Mysteries.
Small towns are often seen as idyllic,but close communities also mean close secrets. When tragedy strikes, it hitsdifferently. It’s not just news—it’s personal.
I wanted to create a protagonist whofeels real, who’s capable and determined, but (mostly) not reckless. She makesmistakes. She second-guesses herself. She worries about her business, herreputation, and the people she loves. The kind of person you’d want on yourside if you ever found yourself in trouble.
She doesn’t investigate because she’sfearless.
She investigates because she cares.
Danika Delaney cares deeply about her hometownand the people in it. She isn’t looking for trouble, but each time someone she caresabout becomes entangled in a murder investigation, she refuses to stand by anddo nothing. Her determination comes from love andloyalty, despite the dangershe often finds herself in—and Detective Dreamy’s insistence that she stay outof his murder investigations!
That emotional core is what drives thisseries. Beneath the clues, red herrings, and twists is a story about loyalty,friendship, and standing up for what’s right—even when it would be easier tolook away.
This series isso much fun to write. Ilove coming up with new ideas, discovering what kind of trouble Dani will getherself and her cohorts into next, and creating new ice cream flavors (yes,there is taste-testing involved!). Most of all, I love the sense of nostalgia Iget each time I write about Watchogue, which is based on the town I grew up in,and its cast of quirky residents.

Kendall Hunt has returned to LegacyRanch after losing her job as a restaurant chef because of the lies, betrayal,and deceit of her boss. Her self-esteem is in the basement, and she needs sometime to process what has happened so she can decide how to move forward into abrighter future.
Ryder Sinclair, a single fatheroriginally from the same small community as Kendall, returns to Hope Crossingto help care for his mother, Ms. Renee, who is suffering from cancer.
Ryder's four-year-old son, Shepard, is asweet bundle of energy, curiosity, and affection who brings a smile to everyonehe's around. Some of my favorite moments in the story were when Shepard or hisgrandmother, Ms. Renee, are in the scene.
After several missed opportunities toresume his high school romance with Kendall, Ryder finally realizes he is unfairlycomparing Kendall to his former wife, Shepard's mother. Once Ryder gives hisworries over to the Lord in prayer, he and Kendall begin to communicate openlyabout their feelings for each other and their relationship.
As with all of this author's books,there is a very tangible faith thread running throughout the entire story—anelement I truly appreciate! The story is completely clean in language andcontent.

Buried in Shadows written byAuthor Dani Pettrey:
I have enjoyed reading several of thisauthor's books in the past few years, and I am never disappointed by her uniquecharacters and settings. She has an uncanny way of weaving tension, danger,romance, and faith together to create memorable stories for her readers.
The setting for this story is adestination wedding at a ski lodge in Silver Pines, Colorado. Cassie Parker waspursued by a violent stalker for a year before he ceased contacting her. It'sbeen a year of no contact, but she has not been able to let go of the stressand strain the stalker has forced upon her.
Sheriff Joel Brunswick, Cassie's former fiancéand brother of the bride, is also a member of the wedding party. He wasdevastated by Cassie's abandonment at the altar and still loves her deeply.
The wedding party includes sevenbridesmaids and seven groomsmen who are enjoying a variety of adventure snowactivities when a massive avalanche strands the large group at the resort. Thegroup is able to get past the avalanche to find shelter in an abandoned skilodge with no electricity and no water. What it does provide is the perfectsetting for a romantic suspense novel filled with close calls, grippingtension, red herrings, and some excellent law enforcement skills which benefitthe entire group.
This story is completely clean inlanguage and content. The faith thread is strong and well-written.

I have read a few of this author's previousnovels, and I appreciate the way she introduces diverse characters into herstories. I come from a family with a long military history which makes me a fanof military fiction.
This story, set at the Silver PinesResort in Colorado, includes diverse characters along with several militaryveterans who are dealing with their own horrible memories from their time spentin combat.
Dr. Maya Sullivan has every intention ofovercoming her combat nightmares, but has not found the right combination ofthings that will make her goal a reality.
During the trip, Maya and fellowveterans from her childhood, Gideon and Vance, are trapped after a severeavalanche closes the entrance to resort. There is no internet service or phoneservice, so everyone is closed off from the rest of the world.
As the plot deepens, sinister activitiesbegin to occur and Maya and Gideon realize someone is trying to kill Maya. Thequestion is why? The pair workstogether to solve the mystery at the same time they are struggling to stayalive.
Fans of this genre will enjoy theromance lingering beneath the surface along with the strong faith thread woventhroughout the story. The story is completely clean in language and content.
