The Curious Tale of Evelyn Freewhattle
I cannot believe I have finally written this short story (or Kindle Single) after carrying it around in my head since I was a young lad. It is a creepy little fable about the disappearance of a little girl called Evelyn Freewhattle and the legend that fallowed.
There is, in fact, a curious tale behind the tale – a ghost story of sorts – and every little bit of it is true. When I was around nine or ten I met this young girl sitting under a tree on the school grounds. She was weeping. The sun was shining and I couldn’t see why she would be crying, so I sat down next to her and asked her boldly why she was, indeed, weeping.
She didn’t say anything.
When I asked her what her name was, she replied, ‘Evelyn.’
And when I asked her again why she was crying, she said, ‘Because they didn’t find me.’
I didn’t understand this, of course, and when I stood up to catch a football that had been kicked down the bank, the little girl had vanished. I caught the football and kicked it up the hill at the expectant football players. I looked around the tree and the surrounding fields but couldn’t find that little girl anywhere.
That night I wondered about her, and made up a little story to better understand why she was crying. The result is this story. Who knows, maybe that little girl will read it and remember, or maybe she wont. Maybe she wasn’t really there at all. Maybe she was ghost. I certainly think she was. . .
The Curious Tale of Evelyn Freewhattle will be available on Amazon within the next few days and will be priced at 99p. Once again, if you sign up for my mail list, and are the first three to do so, then you will get the story for free!
American Horror Story
If there is anything lately that has stoped me writing it is American Horror story. I loved the first season and was so thrilled to hear there was another. I waited months to watch it and the suspense was killing me. It was all I was thinking about. Rumours of aliens, mental institutions and a serial mass murderer known as ‘Bloody Face’ were flying around the internet and every time I got caught up on these articles, my writing went completely out the window. And when I did at last get to watch them, my writing completely became none existent. It is very hard for me not to write when the TV is on in the background – I can write through anything – but not American Horror Story. Not a cat’s chance in hell.
Jessica Lange is simply one of the most supreme actresses in all of cinema and she dominated this series to a fault. The characters were well defined, strong and I actually gave a damn as to what was going to happen to them. My favourite characters have to be Kit and Pepper the pin-head and Lana and – you know what everyone else. It is that good. Seriously you have to watch this series!
Now I have finished watching them, my writing outlet has kicked off again and I’m now inspired to write something wickedly horrific myself.
