M. Manos grew up in the Arkansas Ozarks, where the rules were simple and non-negotiable: don't go so far you can't hear the chainsaw. That kind of boundary — close enough to be found, far enough to actually be alone — shaped how he sees the wild places that show up in his fiction.

He's a graduate of Clinton High School and Arkansas Tech University, and spent 13 years working various roles in land management, including 7 years as a park superintendent. Emergencies, backcountry incidents, and search and rescue calls gave him a firsthand look at what the wilderness does to people under pressure — the kind of pressure that doesn't leave much room for pretending.
