CRITICAL MASS BY SARA PARETSKY

As usual, a well-written V.I. Warshawski novel. The Chicago PI is a true modern-day warrior. My only concern was that there were two stories running simultaneously, one in the past, one in the present. The connection between the two was so dated that it was difficult to accept the immediate danger that revelations from the tragic past posed.

COLD CASE by Stephen White

Interesting story, boring hero. Alan Gregory, a clinical psychologist, gets involved in a "cold" murder case. Alan and his wife are probably the dullest couple on earth. She has physical problems, but even so there's no magic in that relationship. As the story of the murder of two young girls unwinds, we almost see Alan Gregory in some scary situations - almost because he's too busy hiding from any perceived danger. Does he have to be wishy washy?
