Yes, the format of the Rosary is a means, not an end. So if you feel the desire to linger on a mystery and you are praying on your own, do so. If you linger on one mystery for half an hour and never "finish," that's fine. And if during that time God grants you contemplation, you should not feel scrupulous about finishing the Rosary. Just as when He grants contemplation during mental prayer, you do not have to go back to your meditation unless the contemplation was brief and you have not prayed as long as you usually do (which, if you are that advanced, should be half an hour minimum, in my opinion).(less)

“St. John of the Cross writes in The Living Flame of Love: “And here it ought to be pointed out why so few reach this high state of perfect union with God. It should be known that the reason is not that God wishes only a few of these spirits to be so elevated; He would rather want all to be perfect, but He finds few vessels that will endure so lofty and sublime a work”
Connie Rossini, Five Lessons from the Carmelite Saints That Will Change Your Life

“As long as this attachment remains, it is impossible to make progress in perfection, even though the imperfection be very small. It makes little difference whether a bird is tied by a thin thread or by a cord. Even if it is tied by a thread, the bird will be held bound… it will be impeded from flying as long as it does not break the thread.” -            St John of the Cross,       Ascent of Mt. Carmel, Book One, 11.4.”
Connie Rossini, Five Lessons from the Carmelite Saints That Will Change Your Life

“The greater your trust, the greater your spiritual growth.”

“In the twilight of life, God will not judge us on our earthly possessions and human successes, but on how well we have loved.”
Saint John of the Cross

“For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.”
St. Therese of Lisieux

“Trust and trust alone should lead us to love”
St Therese of Lisieux, Collected Letters of St Therese of Lisieux

“Holiness consists simply in doing God's will, and being just what God wants us to be.”
St. Thérèse de Lisieux

“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
