Don't Eat the Red Snow

I make a habit of reading a good vampire and/or Dracula book every winter. Any suggestions for this year? Previous ones include: Anno Dracula, The Secret Life of Laszlo, The Historian.

Welcome (back) to Jurassic Park!

The first novel I ever read was Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park. I loved the movie, read the junior novelization, and then the full book. That begun my life-long love of books. Barnes & Noble released a hardback collection of both Jurassic Park and The Lost World (the latter is still one of the scariest books I've ever read), and the new movie prompted me to return to my roots... on Isla Nublar!

Peace In Amber

If you are a fan of Kurt Vonnegut, and/or a fan of Hugh Howey (and if you haven't discovered the magic of Wool, yet, do yourself a favor and pick it up right now), then check out his short story, Peace In Amber.

The story works as a complimentary piece to Slaughterhouse Five, but also is it's own beautiful tale told from the point of view of a man on the morning of 9/11, and as a woman trapped in the alien zoo with non other than Billy Pilgrim.

There is such heart to the story and Hugh Howey upholds what made Slaughterhouse Five so unique and important. Kurt Vonnegut would be proud.

Past Becomes Myth

I'm finishing the writing for a story that has been growing in my mind for over fifteen years. It began as a personal struggle, turned into a call to action to be a writer, and now I'm weaving it into a tale that will represent the heart of why I'm a storyteller.

When I was younger, I began to write because telling stories was a way to battle my fears. As I grew and changed, the story changed, because I was still trying to understand why I had those fears. Now that those fears that were so prevalent as a child have been alleviated by adulthood and experience, I'm able to look back at that time and finally work out everything I wanted to say about that situation. It's quite freeing.

The first draft will be done within the next week, and then out to my awesome group of editors (victims). I'm aiming for publication before October. I'm very excited to bring this personal story to the world.

Stay Tuned!

Patrick
