About the Author

Little White Bird lived on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation
with the Oglala Lakota. She was arranged to marry an Oglala
Lakota Chief who traveled two thousand miles to claim her as
his wife. They lived together on the Lakota Indian reservation
in the village of Wounded Knee, South Dakota, where her
heart will always be buried.

Little White Bird currently resides in Connecticut; however,
prone to wanderlust, no location is permanent.

“It was never the poverty that deterred me, never the disease, unsanitary conditions, bugs or garbage, those things were never even a thought in my head as a reason for not staying. I kept looking for the good and always found it each day. I was happy on the reservation.
It would have all worked out if Chief could have been a little nicer to me. The only thing I was missing was love and respect from my partner. Maybe he had changed.”
Little White Bird, The Dark Horse Speaks

“If you want to live your life in a creative way, as an artist, you have to not look back too much. You have to be willing to take whatever you’ve done and whoever you were and throw them away. The more the outside world tries to reinforce an image of you, the harder it is to continue to be an artist, which is why a lot of times, artists have to say, “Bye. I have to go. I’m going crazy and I’m getting out of here.” And they go and hibernate somewhere. Maybe later they re-emerge a little differently.”
Walter Isaacson, Steve Jobs

“Never judge someone
By the way he looks
Or a book by the way it's covered;
For inside those tattered pages,
There's a lot to be discovered”
Stephen Cosgrove

“An unbelieved truth can hurt a man much more than a lie. It takes great courage to back truth unacceptable to our times. There's a punishment for it, and it's usually crucifixion.”
John Steinbeck, East of Eden

“Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete? Proving nature's laws wrong, it learned to walk without having feet. Funny, it seems to by keeping it's dreams; it learned to breathe fresh air. Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else even cared.”
Tupac Shakur, The Rose That Grew From Concrete
