2017 Queers & Comics Confabulousness

Queers & Comics logoBristles and tats and l’il felt tips, people: The 2017 Queers & Comics Conference is upon us! It’s in San Francisco this time (last one was 2015 in NYC) on Friday and Saturday, April 14-15. Queer comics superstars Gengoroh Tagame and Mariko Tamaki are conference keynote speakers…as if the mere notion of such a conglomeration was not enuf!

I will be there too–appearing on (in? at?) A Life in Panels: Queer Women Memoir on Saturday at 4:30-6 PM with immoderate moderator/doggie drawer Nicole Georges, and a pack of other graphic self-revealers, including Becky Hawkins, Leanne Franson, Sophie Yanow, and Khale McHurst. I will also be signing books on Saturday, April 15, from 12-1 PM.

Put down yer chia pudding and pick up a copy of the July/August issue of the Women’s Review of Books! It features a new comic by yours truly in which Butcheye the Sailor Lassie (with some assistance from Sojourner Truth) offers a waterlogged but incisive consideration of the Womink problem.

Tintin, Tom of Finland and Beyond: How I Came to Comics through Alt Masculinity and Bad Sex

Didja know I used to do a zine in which characters regularly appeared without trousers? I will be giving a talk on the angry 1990s sex rant that was negativa and the influence on my work of alternative comics and zines such as Love & Rockets, Eightball, Tom of Finland, G.B. Jones, Straight to Hell and more.

Tuesday, March 8, 2016, 7 PM.

Here’s the piece you’ve been waiting for on non-normative gender parenting!

Beyond Mom ‘n’ Pop by Andrea Bennett and Kim Fu, in Hazlitt Magazine. Should I be surprised that the authors are Canadian?

New York Comic Con – Oct. 10

New York Comic Con 2015
Prism Comics Presents: Autobiography in Queer Comics

Sat. October 10| 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM | Room 1A01

The autobiography genre has been a staple of indie comics for decades. Some of the best examples of the form are the work of LGBT creators who have used this platform to share stories about their often misunderstood subcultures. Join Moderator Tara Madison Avery (Gooch) and Panelists Morgan Boecher (What’s Normal Anyway?), Sina Grace (Self-Obsessed), L. Nichols (Flocks), Carlo Quispe (Uranus), AK Summers (Pregnant Butch) and Ariel Schrag (Likewise) for a lively discussion about comics that are true to queer life!
