An excellent look at the tea and opium trade, the two commodities that financed the British Empire. Rich in all sorts of detail, Smoke and Ashes is certainly a page turner.

Not his best, but clearly relevant given the way AI is headed. Mechanical companionship is surely just around the corner. While describing a dystopian world in a work of fiction, this is a glimpse into that looming reality. For that alone, I'm glad I ...more
