Introverts like to ease into things
From the time I was a little kid, I’ve always preferred to ease in to new situations. A birthday party in a new, exciting place? I’d usually stop and observe the room and the crowd for a while. It didn’t mean I was unhappy or frightened; that was just my natural way. My introvert brain was soaking in all the details, processing it all at blazing speed, even if I just looked like a little girl standing silently at the door. As I grew older, even into young adulthood, I continued to ease into t...

Are we not interesting enough?
Why does it seem like our extrovert friends always have other people around when we want to spend time with them? Sure, sometimes it’s because they always have other people around, period. But other times they invite others even though they know in advance that they’ll be getting together with us! Do they need others as a buffer or because we are too boring to spend time with one on one? Do they need to invite lots of entertaining people along just so they can get through that hour or two? Is...

Loneliness – A beginning of understanding
A few years ago I mentioned that when I was young and single I found that when the weather got warmer and the days got longer, I’d feel an almost physical pain. It was like a longing for something I could not name. After that post, I had at least one blog comment and several long emails telling me that others have that same experience. What is that painful feeling? That pain is loneliness.
I felt that pain again a couple of weeks ago. It was an unseasonably warm day, so I decided to take a rea...

Since my area of expertise is in solving people’s social anxiety, I want to explain why introverts are prone to social anxiety, and what you can...

What’s on your mind today?
This is a place for us to talk – and use nicknames instead of our Facebook accounts so we can talk without nosy friends and relatives stalking us. What sort of things are you running into that are bothering you – or that you have learned from?

My new ebook for and about introverted students!
I have a little surprise that should be good for all of you who are young and still have parents or teachers saying or implying that you should “come out of your shell.” (Whatever that means)!
You may remember that about three years ago I asked readers who were students to answer a short survey about what their obstacles were in life as well as what they’d like from their parents/teachers – and what advice they’d give introverted students. I got some amazing answers! Over 120 students each wro...

Help this introvert become a better doctor!
Hi. Firstly, a big Thank-you to IntrovertZone for helping me come to terms with being an introvert. I’ve gained so much self-confidence after I discovered this website and began to understand myself better.
I’m 24 years old, recently graduated out of med school, and just started interning in a hospital. I want to know if there are any introverts working in the healthcare field out here, their experiences and inputs as they battle through an extrovert-dominated atmosphere, and also if anyone ha...
