10 Beautiful Covers by SFF Indie Authors!

Happy November!

Over the past few months, while I was publishing Amy of the Necromancers (which is now available for free as a full ebook when you sign up to my newsletter!) I’ve been doing a lot of newsletter swaps with other sci-fi and fantasy indie authors. Basically, that means that I will mention their book in my newsletter in exchange for their mentioning my book in theirs. It’s a simple process that allows both writers to reach a lot more readers.

One of my favorite parts of doing these swa...

New Serialized Novel: Amy of the Necromancers

On Friday, February 21, I will begin releasing my new serialized young adult fantasy novel, Amy of the Necromancers! I’ve been wanting to write this story for a long time, and I’m so excited to finally get the chance to share it with you.

What is this novel about, you ask? I’ll tell you!

Amy’s family isn’t like other families. Amy’s mother has an almost magical ability to ease the pain of the dying. Every full moon, her aunt sits in a graveyard and talks to ghosts. Her sister Diana can tell...

How to Keep Yourself Accountable as a Writer

With the release of The Relic Spell less than week away (!) and a host of responsibilities weighing me down, I haven’t had much chance to work on the second book in The Phyrian War Chronicles. I need to get a move on with it, though, if I want to have it done in a timely fashion and not leave everyone hanging after the first book comes out.

This struggle got me thinking about all the different accountability strategies I’ve tried over the years. I thought I should share them with you in hopes...

What fiction writers can learn from video games

After several months of abstaining, I spent the better part of this Sunday playing video games. It’s not like I don't have anything I should be doing—my to-do list is neverending. But time you enjoyed wasting isn’t wasted, or however the saying goes, right?

Still, I wanted to make myself feel better about “wasting” my Sunday, so I started thinking about whether I could learn anything useful for me as a writer. A lot of the writing strategies used in video games don’t really apply to fiction...

The Magic System of The Phyrian War Chronicles

In the world of The Phyrian War Chronicles, my new young adult fantasy series, magic is fueled by different types of energies that course through the universe. Each type of energy has distinct properties, uses, and origins. In turn, there are different kinds of practitioners who can bend each type of energy to their will, each with their own methods to achieve desired results.

Today, I want to share with you a bit about the magic system I had so much fun creating! If you want to find out more...

Kristen S. Walker on her Journey as an Indie Author

absinthe4-300x268.jpg

Today I'm super excited to share an interview I had with fellow indie fantasy author Kristen S. Walker! Kristen was one of the first indie authors I connected with back when I was preparing to publish my first novel, Blue Rabbit, and she was preparing to publish her first novel, Small Town Witch. We supported each other, enjoyed each other's work, and connected over our passion for portraying LGBTQ characters in our novels. Kristen is an awesome member of the indie author community and a fan...

Meet the Characters of The Relic Spell! - Zodiac Signs

My characters astrological signs-2.png

I’ll be honest: I don’t really believe in astrology. But I do think it’s a lot of fun! When I was thinking of ways to introduce you all to the main characters of my upcoming young adult fantasy novel, The Relic Spell, figuring out their zodiac signs sounded like the most fun idea. So whether you believe in astrology or not, enjoy getting to know my characters!

Thank you to my friend Molly Howard, who knows a lot more about astrology than me, for helping me figure out everyone’s signs!

Why It's Okay to Re-Read Books Again and Again (and Again)

Why It's Okay to Re-Read Books Again and Again (and Again).png

I grew up in a small town in Argentina that consistently ran bookstores out of business. There was a tiny library that didn’t have any interesting books. It was before tablets, so I didn’t have access to ebooks. But I really, really loved to read. That’s probably why I developed the habit of re-reading my favorite books multiple times.

Ever since I’ve had access to more books, I’ve always felt a little guilty re-reading. There are so many good books in the world and so little time to read...
