Progress Report 2020 #34

It’s Friday, time to look at what we’ve done for the last week.Words written (week/YTD): 22,197 / 481,4921,700-words of admin + 5 projects. This week saw a lot of words into the counter, but 15k of those were into something super easy that I wasn’t supposed to be writing. (oops!) The funniest part about that, is that those words will likely never see the light of day (without EXTREME reediting-

Progress Report 2020 #33

It’s Friday, time to look at what we’ve done for the last week.Words written (week/YTD): 15,336 / 459,295747-words of admin + 7 projects. This week was rough. I don’t even have an explanation for it. I just didn’t get much done.In an odd twist, the usual rule of: more projects = more words didn’t hold true this week. My brain was apparently scattered, but not in an “at least I’m productive”

Progress Report 2020 #32

It’s Friday, time to look at what we’ve done for the last week.Words written (week/YTD): 18,512 / 443,959596-words of admin + 4 projects. I have a few drafts that are lining up like dominoes, and another one fell this week. Finishing a draft is both exciting and distracting. For me, that means my brain wanders off, thinking about the fun thing I could put in its previously scheduled time slot.

Progress Report 2020 #31

It’s Friday, time to look at what we’ve done for the last week.Words written (week/YTD): 10,191 / 425,447598-words of admin + 4 projects. Along with plugging away toward my next deadline, I managed to finish up two drafts and filed those away for the next stage of their lives. The “end of life” stage of drafting is always slower than just starting out. Mostly because early drafting is a place you

Progress Report 2020 #30

It’s Friday, time to look at what we’ve done for the last week.Words written (week/YTD): 26,476 / 415,256664-words of admin + 4 projects. Half of this week’s w/c was put in by outlining a future series. Four books fully outlined, one is only half done 13 in the books. The rest was divided between editing input (necessitating 2 additional chapters drafted into this version) and some slow-write

How Drafting a Novel is like Getting a Tattoo

Let’s start by talking about tattoos.I believe it’s safe to say the normal person would call me “moderately” tattooed.Including an unfinished sleeve, almost the entirety of my legs from both hips to ankles and a few others here and there, I have 21 in total. I’ve been getting tattooed since I was 18. I’ve spent many cumulative hours in artists’ chairs under the needle. One of the questions that

Progress Report 2020 #29

It’s Friday, time to look at what we’ve done for the last week.Words written (week/YTD): 18,263 / 388,780578-words of admin + 3 projects. As always, my word count is lower when I have fewer projects. Less one project, less ~4k. This week’s count wasn’t helped by the fact I had a tattoo appointment on Friday and tattoos and word counts don’t mix. It’s the wrong combo of brain chemicals. Also, the

Progress Report 2020 #28

It’s Friday, time to look at what we’ve done for the last week.Words written (week/YTD): 22,532 / 370,517319-words of admin + 4 projects. This word count brought to you by week two of fast drafting a book. The fast track approach means lots of words, and lots of future edits. Which is sometimes (definitely in this book’s case) the better option.Monthly word counts passed this week: 2018, 2014,

Progress Report 2020 #27

It’s Friday, time to look at what we’ve done for the last week.Words written (week/YTD): 23,033 / 347,985132-words of admin + 5 projects. My determination to kill July seems to be going well… If I can keep up this pace, I’ll be able to hit (if not pass) my highest June count in recorded history. I have two upcoming tattoo appointments, so those Fridays are going to be low on the w/c, unless

Progress Report 2020 #26

It’s Friday, time to look at what we’ve done for the last week.Words written (week/YTD): 7,745 / 324,952997-words of admin + 4 projects. The last few days of June were alright, but I’m blowing into July like my life depends on these word counts, and that’s making me happy. I’ve written more in these first two days of July than I did the final four days of last month. Fingers crossed I can keep
