Book Review: G.I. JOE: FALL OF MANN by Ernie Lindsey
Until this week, I had never read a piece of fan fiction. Ever.
So when author Ernie Lindsey sent a note out asking for volunteer reviewers for his latest fanfic novella G.I. Joe:Fall of Mann, I decided it was high time to take the plunge.
A quick search on Wikipedia tells me that G.I. Joe has been a Hasbro staple since 1962, but the Joes I remember are the ones from the 1980’s. You know, the G.I. Joe team and their ongoing fight against Cobra Command to save the Free World.
In this installment...

#FREE Short Story: THE COLLECTOR
My name is Matt. Single, Iraq war veteran and the owner of a failing microbrewery. My life was pretty much on a one-way trip down the toilet when an out-of-the-blue job offer solved all my problems. The new gig pays really well and the hours are almost nonexistent. Best of all, I’m required to keep my full-time job running my brewery.
But when my special phone rings, I become The Collector, an Internet-age bounty hunter, a contractor of a contrac...

Book Review: AETNA ADRIFT by Erik Wecks
When you sell your book on Amazon, there is a feature on your book page called “Customers Who Viewed this Item Also Viewed.” I like to browse this list to see what other authors are up to. A few weeks ago, one title caught my eye, Aetna Adrift (A Pax Imperium Novel) by Erik Wecks.
So, using my magic Kindle, I bought it. If you enjoy space opera/adventure, you’ll like Aetna Adrift. As advertised, it’s a “high octane thriller” for sure, but it’s more than that.
Meet Jack Randall, smuggler, playbo...

Book Review: EYE OF THE STORM by Aimee Kuzenski
I met Aimee Kuzenski a few weeks ago when she gave a reading of her debut novel “Eye of the Storm” at DreamHaven Books in Minneapolis. Her reading convinced me to buy a copy of the book and I’m glad I did.
As Book One in the Deus Ex Machina quartet, “Eye of the Storm” introduces us to the old gods. The really old gods. As in the OG, Original Gods. For source material, Kuzenski goes all the way back to the Four Horsemen (Conquest, War, Plague and Death, in case you needed a refresher). In her w...

Book Review: Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
One of my 2014 resolutions was to go back and pick up a few Golden Oldies from my high school and college reading lists. Here’s a personal fave about a boy and his little white mouse.
I ran across Flowers for Algernon again on somebody’s “best of” list a few weeks ago. I say “again” because I dimly remembered the book from a high school lit class… I seemed to recall Algernon was the mouse.
A quick trip to the library and I had a copy in my hand.
When you read books about writing craft, you learn...
