I've neglected this blog basically because I started another blog at wordpress.com. So, if anyone should stumble across this blog and sent it basically devoid of posts and you're just clamoring for more of my tidbits and nuggets of wisdom, just mosey on over to my blog at Wordpress.

If a tree falls
So here I am at about 12:35 am, two days after Christmas. Dutifully writing a blog that no one reads, yet it's a public. So anyone could read. There's something ironic about that I suppose.
I had a pretty good Christmas. Anytime I spend with my family I consider a good time. My mom's no longer with us. Nor is my step-dad. I miss them both tremendously. Being part of a blended family, there was a time that I had an overabundance of grandparents. Now I have none. They've all gone. And yes, I miss them all to. But, I still have family. My wife and kids, my mother-in-law, my sisters and brothers. And certainly, my dad. He's a big part of me. And I'm thankful he's here. Well, anyway, that's all I have to write now in this blog that no one reads.

Kirkus Review
I've heard so much talk about whether or not an Indie writer should invest money in getting a Kirkus Review. It seems the main concern is the fact that Kirkus charges Indie writers for the privilege and some people think that reeks of something. Here's my take. With the onrush of literally millions of Indie writers, there is no way that any reviewer can service them all. That's the first thing. Secondly, if you have a publishing deal, that company is vouching for you to the potential readers. They're saying I know this guy. When you're an Indie writer, particularly an unknown one, no one is vouching for you. Kirkus gives you an opportunity to have someone vouch for you, provided of course that the work is good. Now for Kirkus, since there are as I say millions of Indie writers, they can't review everyone, so wouldn't a good filter system be to accept writers who believe enough in their own works to put their money where their mouth is?

6 Months in.
It's been about six months since I've entered the world of "published author". I've spent most of that time learning and discovering. Learning about the business of publishing and discovering all the neat sites that are available to authors and readers, i.e. goodreads. Of course everything out there isn't positive. But enough are, for me anyway. I've come across some good people, very helpful and sharing with their information. The information out there is abundant if you have time and patience to sort thru it all. Anywho, this is about it for a first post. I haven't been a blogger. So this too, is a new experience.
